The Dallas Briefing sucks

September 19, 2008 at 09:24 AM

The Dallas Briefing sucks. It's essentially garbage thrown into our lawns everyday that no one asked for. I have half a mind to stand out in the front yard and throw my kitchen garbage back at them when they drive past. Or maybe call the city and let them know some car is coming by and littering in our entire neighborhood every freaking day. Some of my more useless neighbors don't even bother to pick... Vista and Cisco VPN don't play nice

February 03, 2007 at 05:00 PM

Picked up a new Vista-powered laptop this week (replacement to one Best Buy/Geek Squad messed up) for the wife. Pretty much just needed to surf the web, do a little image editing, and HTML/CSS dev, and other pretty basic stuff. The only thing she really needs it for is to access her work computer so she can work from home. Of course we quickly got hit with one of the biggest perils of early... Continue reading

Bevo Sports Wins College Football Blogger Award

February 01, 2007 at 06:16 PM

My Texas Longhorns sports site, BevoSports.com, has won the Brady Quinn Award. What is the Brady Quinn Award you ask? It's an award for the best looking college football blog in the whole entire world. We felt honored just to be nominated, so winning is definitely a cool thing. I just hope people don't consider us as over-rated as Brady Quinn and Notre Dame. That would suck. So thanks to everyone out there who... Continue reading

Cambodian New Year

April 18, 2006 at 10:28 PM

Christina and I accompanied her mother this weekend to a Cambodian New Year's celebration at a Dallas-area Buddhist temple. We had actually been out to the temple the weekend before as well since her mom had gotten the date wrong. It wasn't specifically a Buddhist celebration, so despite it being at a Buddhist temple I would guess the majority of the Cambodians in attendance weren't practicing Buddhist. Or maybe they were just lazy Buddhists... Continue reading

Awesome, Grande Cable is f***ing piece of crap

January 04, 2006 at 06:45 PM

Apparently they decided today was a good day to screw up and drop ESPN and instead show Fox Sports on 2 dif channels at once. This is the same POS company that in 2006 does not offer digital cable or HD original promised date of availability for HD: 9/2004. Pathetic. I'm sure glad i get my HD via OTA antenna and won't be relying on these morons.... Continue reading

Christmas 2005

December 22, 2005 at 09:42 PM

I had to drive down to McDade by myself that weekend so Christina and I opened presents early on the 16tth so I could listen to my new Sirius radio on the trip. Only one surprise, a black leather jacket that I would've never bought but I really like, but I love all my presents. The jacket, the radio, a Xbox 360 game and accessory, and some other stuff. What a good fiance I've... Continue reading

Santa Reesey

December 20, 2005 at 07:04 AM

I was trying to surprise Christina with Christmas photos of me and Reesey in front of the tree. I actually got her to wear her little Santa hat that she's despised and never worn since we got it a year ago, but she wouldn't hold still at all. It's too dark in our living room for good pictures without the flash (and she's too wiggly) and too small of a room for it to... Continue reading

Addison Oktoberfest

September 17, 2005 at 05:12 PM

Christina and I went to the Oktoberfest in Addison on Saturday. We had a good time, but it was bloody hot out and it was kind of rinky dink. Both in size and stuff to do it sure doesn't hold a candle to Wurstfest in New Braunfels. There wasn't a ton of people, and most were families. Maybe it's more fun after dark. It was also much less German than Wurstfest. Ninety percent of... Continue reading

House Hunting

August 02, 2005 at 09:23 PM

Christina and I have started to look into buying a house next summer and so we went last weekend and visited our first open house. We went to see some DR Horton homes up in McKinney and are pretty excited. We're still very early on in our search but we had a good time and learned a lot. For one thing, the neighborhood is almost as important the house. So many of those mid-level... Continue reading

Coca-Cola Zero

I've just discovered Coca-Cola Zero (man, I love Wikipedia). I saw it in the grocery store and despite not having a clue what it was or how it was different from the other 2,320 varieties of Coke or Diet Coke, I bought a 12-pack. Malcolm Gladwell

I'm going to try to pick up his new book Blink as soon as possible eventhough I already have a ton of reading I want to do. I may miss teaching

March 08, 2005 at 05:22 PM

I had to give a demo at work today of an application we've been working on forever and I really enjoyed doing it. I think I may actually miss teaching. Let me clarify that last statement a little. School holidays kick ass!

December 20, 2004 at 08:45 AM

My five mile drive to work this morning took only 10 minutes, or approximately 15 minutes less than normal. Apparently about 75% of the 234,000 people that live in Plano are stay-at-home moms, because there was absolutely no one on the road this morning. Add that to the fact that none of the three school zones I have to deal with on a daily basis were active. It was smooth sailing. I love school... Continue reading

Shit that bothers me: Weight lifting gloves

Especially country music fans age 30 or older, as several of the performers are from the 70's and 80's. But I'm not complaining, it was a great mix of young and old artists and all different types of country/rock music. The music itself was great. The only group I had seen live... Continue reading

I'd like to have the templates all done and the rest of my pages set up by the end of tommorrow. I wanna get the basic set up all finished so I can start making changes... Continue reading

I got TiVo!

April 30, 2004 at 08:33 AM

Since I apparently have been rejected from three different jobs in the last two days, I decided to cheer myself up and buy electronics. So I went home and got all my Best Buy gift cards and certificates (50 bucks worth) and went down to the store and bought myself a TiVo DVR. I've been wanting one forever, but had always talked myself out of it. I had a TV tuner on my PC so... Continue reading

Strike one...

April 29, 2004 at 09:28 AM

It's only 9 a.m. and it's already been a pretty rough day. Just about every person, teacher and student, asks me if I heard about the jobs yet when they walk by. I tell them no, hadn't heard yet, but supposed to today. But that's a lie, I have heard I just don't want to tell them. I got the call from Whole Foods yesterday afternoon. I thought it was going to be good news,... Continue reading

I'm losing it...

April 28, 2004 at 11:31 AM

I'm checking my email every 2 minutes wondering if I'll hear any news on Whole Foods, Management Insights, or Periscope Holdings. I'm so worried I'll strike out on all three.... Continue reading

New virus outbreak?

April 28, 2004 at 11:26 AM

I've gotten two virus-infected emails at my UT address today within an hour of each other. One from someone I know but haven't spoken to in years and another from a random UT address. They were a little different but both had a lot of similarities in both the subject line and the body. Be on the lookout if you receive any emails with attachments (you should always be alert jackass!)... Continue reading

I'm doing absolutely nothing at work

April 28, 2004 at 10:43 AM

I took the day off yesterday to go on my Whole Foods interview, I might as well have taken today off as well. Since I wasn't here yesterday, there wasn't a duty assigned to me. So this morning I haven't done a damn thing. TAKS testing is going on until 11:30 am so I've graded every last paper that I put off for the last 4 weeks. Plus listened to ESPN Radio, read half of... Second interview today

April 27, 2004 at 09:08 AM

Today will go a long way in determining my future. That's pretty heavy. I have a second interview this afternoon with Whole Foods in Austin, I'm one of only three finalists left for the job. If I do well and get the job I'll be working for an amazing company in the city I want to and doing a job that sounds really interesting to me. And if I bomb, the search will continue. I'm... Big news to start a big week

April 26, 2004 at 11:25 AM

I just received an email from Whole Foods about a second round interview. I'm really excited because the company is real good and the job seems great too. I have to take the whole day off from work to go on the interview, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. The rest of the week should be pretty eventful also. I have a phone conference with MII this afternoon. The interview last Thursday went well... Continue reading

Stupid Dreamweaver

April 26, 2004 at 09:12 AM

Freaking Dreamweaver fucked up my index templates. It randomly decided what should and shouldn't be capitalized and therefore I can't use my template I worked forever on. There should still be a decent version at home, I'll have to reupload it tonight.... Continue reading

Mas Job Interviewos

April 20, 2004 at 09:35 PM

So it had been a full year since I had had a job interview, and back then they were few and far between. Now I had an interview with Whole Foods last week and today I landed two more. That's three interviews in less than a week. Freaking awesome. I have an interview with Periscope Holdings tomorrow at 3, and then on Thursday I have an interview with Management Insights. Neither are big companies, but... Continue reading

Two things I can't stand

April 18, 2004 at 02:48 PM

There's two things that have always disturbed me that people do: eat ranch dressing on pizza and dip french fries into Frostys. That's fucking weird and it needs to be stopped. The really bad thing is that it's usually the same damn person that does both. Ranch dressing is gross just in general, but if you do like it it's for salad and salad only. Weirdos. And freaking french fries and frostys? That's just not... Continue reading

My interview

April 17, 2004 at 02:48 PM

So my interview with Whole Foods was yesterday afternoon in Austin. I guess it went pretty well, I thought I did pretty decent and hope they were impressed by me. We'll see. I left work at 2:30, my dad covered my 8th period class for me. I guess there are good things about working the same place your dad does. The interview wasn't till 4:30 but I was worried traffic would be bad and I... Continue reading

The great Lamar race

April 16, 2004 at 09:42 AM

Okay, my interview today is on Lamar and 6th and I knew the traffic was a bitch there, but I didn't know it was this bad. Columnist John Kelso decided to test what would be fast to do at 5pm in Austin, drive down Lamar from Town Lake to 24th or ride your bike along the Shoal Creek trail to get there. Well the bicyclist (who appears to be about a 50+ year old woman)... Continue reading

I've got tons to do today...

April 15, 2004 at 08:45 AM

So I've got an interview tomorrow with Whole Foods. I'm really excited about it because it's a friggin' awesome company, its in downtown Austin, the pay is decent, the job sounds good, I wouldn't have to program Java etc, and I would be able to travel. I would be traveling up to 30% of the time to places like Chicago, Maryland, Florida, and California. That sounds pretty fun, but I hope I'm not gone too... Continue reading

I'm stressed

April 14, 2004 at 10:12 AM

My current and future job(s) are adding up to really stress the shit out of me right now. I'm tired and I'm tired of being tired. I'm couting the days, hours, and minutes till I'm done as a teacher. You couldn't believe how much I hate it and how it makes me feel. Just being here and around these kids drains me of all my energy and any good feelings. (Luckily just the opposite applies...
