DirecTV Adds Eleven New HD Channels for Fall

May 30, 2007 at 07:57 AM

In about a week I'll have DirecTV HD so the news that DirecTV is adding 11 new HD channels this fall is pretty exciting for me. The 11 this fall aren't too exciting, but there's more on the way after that look even better. This fall the Discovery Channel is launching Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and The Science Channel all in beautiful high definition. There will also be five Starz channels that I won't... Sony and Immersion settle, rumble coming to PS3?

March 03, 2007 at 12:04 PM

Sony Computer Entertainment and Immersion have finally reached an agreement on their patent dispute over video game rumble technology. The dispute resulted in the omission of rumble in the new Sixaxis c ontrollers, one of Sony's biggest mistakes with the PlayStation 3. The two companies have now entered into an agreement that should allow for Sony to use their technology going forward and should mean rumble will soon be available to PS3 gamers. Good news... The Multimedia Remote Control Wrangler lets you velcro remote controls to your head. You'll never lose a remove again as long as you don't lose your head. As you can see from the photo above, you can even control the Nintendo Wii with your mind... or at least your head. (via)... Continue reading

AdSense-Deluxe WordPress Plugin

February 10, 2007 at 09:51 PM

Recently found an incredibly useful WordPress plugin called AdSense-Deluxe. WordPress doesn't let you easily put either JavaScript or PHP into a post so integrated Google ads into a post is next to impossible, AdSense-Deluxe solves that problem and then some. Once installed you simply set up a few different AdSense blocks with differnt ad units or styles and then when writing a post you simply select which one of those blocks to put in a... Vista and Cisco VPN don't play nice

February 03, 2007 at 05:00 PM

Picked up a new Vista-powered laptop this week (replacement to one Best Buy/Geek Squad messed up) for the wife. Pretty much just needed to surf the web, do a little image editing, and HTML/CSS dev, and other pretty basic stuff. The only thing she really needs it for is to access her work computer so she can work from home. Of course we quickly got hit with one of the biggest perils of early... Continue reading

Bevo Sports Wins College Football Blogger Award

February 01, 2007 at 06:16 PM

My Texas Longhorns sports site, BevoSports.com, has won the Brady Quinn Award. What is the Brady Quinn Award you ask? It's an award for the best looking college football blog in the whole entire world. We felt honored just to be nominated, so winning is definitely a cool thing. I just hope people don't consider us as over-rated as Brady Quinn and Notre Dame. That would suck. So thanks to everyone out there who... Continue reading

I am "Flaccid with Rage" over the iPhone

January 14, 2007 at 09:58 PM

Okay, I'm actually quite excited about the iPhone but Stephen Colbert gives Apple the dreaded double finger wag for the iPhone announcement. "The iPhone has given the nerd community it's hardest collective wood since Princess Leia wore a bronze bikini... But I am flaccid with rage." The Colbert Report isn't always good but that's one of the funniest (and most on point) lines I've heard in a while. The love Apple is getting right now... Continue reading

Apple iPhone announced

January 11, 2007 at 09:51 PM

Apple announced the new iPhone at Tuesday's MacWorld keynote (live blog from Engadget or just the photos) and I must have one. The thing is incredible looking and pretty darn powerful too. It's a cool cellphone, widescreen iPod, and an Internet device. No buttons, everything is done through a sleek touchscreen interface. The full blown Safari browser on the phone actually looks incredibly useful (unlike most mobile browsers.) Includes a 4 or 8 GB... Continue reading

Dell buys 1UP?

January 08, 2007 at 08:55 PM

Okay no they didn't. But Destructoid.com is claiming that Dell has bought 1UP and Electronic Gaming Monthly based on this Dell-branded page at dell.1up.com. There's definitely some sort of relationship between Dell and 1UP.com but the page sure doesn't prove Dell has actually acquired EGM and 1UP as the guys from Destructoid conclude. You only get the Dell logo and banner if you first visit the Dell landing page first and that Dell landing... Continue reading

The Evolution of the Video Game Console

June 17, 2006 at 07:34 PM

Thumb Gods has a history of the video game console from 1972 to the present. Starts off with the Magnavox Odyssey and lists every console up to the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3. Includes Wikipedia links for more details on the consoles. My first console was in the second generation, the Atari 5200. I sure loved baseball, Defender, Dig Dig, and Pole Position. There were some great games for the system. I wonder what... Continue reading
