The origin of Lance Berkman's "Big Puma" nickname

May 19, 2008 at 09:24 PM

Houston sports media personality Lance Zierlein discusses the origins of former Canyon High School baseball star Lance Berkman's excellent Big Puma nickname. Berkman may have learned everything he knows about baseball from a young Brian Behrend, but he's always had the same sense of humor. That sense of humor is the main source of the name Big Puma: Well the discussion turned to his unfortunate nickname of "Fat Elvis". He told us the story of... Continue reading

Trinity U. Wins Game on 15 Lateral Final Play

October 28, 2007 at 07:13 AM

Down by two with only a couple seconds left in the game Trinity University out of San Antonio didn't have much hope against the mighty Millsaps Majors. One play, 61 yards, and fifteen laterals later the Tigers were celebrating an improbably victory. Check out the video below: Trinity did a great job of keeping the play alive and it actually looked like all of the laterals were legit laterals. Plays like this almost always end... The Sooners lose to Boise State again in NCAA 08

May 25, 2007 at 09:13 PM

The Oklahoma Sooners lost to Boise State in historic fashion in last year's Fiesta Bowl, and it looks like EA isn't going to let them forget it. One of the biggest features they're touting in NCAA Football 08 (due out in July) is all the new trick plays they've added to the expanded play books. To highlight the feature, they're using a clip of Boise State using the Statue of Liberty play to beat OU... Continue reading

A&M fans hold "mini" yell practice for Gillispie

March 29, 2007 at 03:48 PM

Man are those guys ever going to figure out this crap is why the entire country mocks them incessantly? They held a miniature yell practice trying to convince coach Billy Gillispie to stay at Texas A&M and not move on to a better job. Only about 70 students and other morons fans showed up (the 150 number quoted in the story is BS) and Coach Gillispie was not even in the state. The rally... Continue reading

Dallas city council trying to blow Super Bowl bid

March 23, 2007 at 02:51 PM

First Mayor Laura Miller and her fellow idiots on the Dallas City Council cost Dallas the Cotton Bowl (and probably the Texas/Oklahoma game.) Now they're doing their best to ruin any attempts to bring the Super Bowl to the new Cowboys stadium and the DFW area. Despite not being interested in paying for the new stadium or the economic revival it would bring, Dallas is trying to bully their way into reaping all the... Continue reading

Aggies' worst nightmare come true

March 07, 2007 at 09:12 PM

This movie is definite Academy Award material for next year, but will probably be banned in Bryan/College Station. Coming soon to a theater near you: A genetic engineering experiment goes horribly wrong, turning sheep into bloodthirsty killers. From the same effects studio behind Lord of the Rings, Black Sheep will be in theaters June 22nd. Get ready for the violence of the lambs. (Watch higher quality version) Update: Well talk about coincidence, the movie will... Continue reading

EA announces NCAA Football 08 cover boy

March 04, 2007 at 10:05 AM

EA Sports has announced that former Boise State quarterback Jared Zabransky will be on the cover of NCAA Football 2008. Zabransky and his Bronco teammates had a storybook season and knocked off the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl in one of the most exciting college football games of the year. It was one of the more interesting stories of this season, but there's no way he deserves to be on the cover. Zabransky... Continue reading

February 24, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Tragic news tonight as the young Grapevine High School baseball player injured in a batting cage accident passed away tonight from the injury. Chris Gavora was hit in the head while tossing batting practice to a teammate. He was standing behind an L-screen but a line drive from another cage went through a hole in a protective net and struck him. Officials are investigating if proper safety procedures were followed. Our thoughts go out to... Continue reading

Time Warner is selling the Atlanta Braves

February 13, 2007 at 10:37 PM

Time Warner Inc. is selling the Atlanta Braves to Liberty Media, owners of the Discovery Channel, USA, QVC, Encore, and STARZ. Great news for Braves' fans as Time Warner's financial troubles since the AOL merger in January 2000 resulted in a reduction of payroll being forced on general manager John Schuerholz. Odd deal that has Time Warner will handing over the Braves, a group of craft magazines, and $1 billion in cash to Liberty Media... Continue reading

Bevo Sports Wins College Football Blogger Award

February 01, 2007 at 06:16 PM

My Texas Longhorns sports site, BevoSports.com, has won the Brady Quinn Award. What is the Brady Quinn Award you ask? It's an award for the best looking college football blog in the whole entire world. We felt honored just to be nominated, so winning is definitely a cool thing. I just hope people don't consider us as over-rated as Brady Quinn and Notre Dame. That would suck. So thanks to everyone out there who... Continue reading

Vince Young is AP Rookie of the Year

January 04, 2007 at 07:36 PM

Tennessee Titans quarterback and former Longhorn Vince Young ran away with the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Vince picked up 23 out of the 50 possible votes, easily besting Marques Colston and Maurice Jones-Drew. Overhyped New Orleans Saint Reggie Bush pulled up the rear with only 3 votes. Vince really had an impressive season, he even exceeded my high expectations for him in year one. This was a remarkably good year... Continue reading
