Windows Media Player A Security Threat

March 02, 2005 at 11:35 AM

I got my ass kicked by a virus/spyware smorgasboard when Windows Media Player 10 tried to acquire a license for a music file. Installed all sorts of fun stuff that even after weeks worth of running spyware cleaners and Norton Anti-Virus was still lingering. I eventually had to reformat and reinstall.

The NY Times fumbles Bluesnarfing at the Oscars

March 02, 2005 at 09:16 AM

Well the New York Times just sorta made stuff up and ignore 80% of the facts to write this article. Nice work.

Pretty easy to see why the mainstream media is so fearful of bloggers, they make it pretty obvious when a story is made-up, half-assed, and unresearched.

Segway GT (Golf Transporter)

March 01, 2005 at 09:12 AM

It's a Segway to use at the golf course, complete with golf bag carrier. I see old men falling off these things and breaking a hip immediately.

They could actually speed up play of the people who knew how to drive them, since they're single person vehicles you don't have to wander all over the place because you both suck at golf.

Why would Apple even want TiVo?

February 24, 2005 at 09:33 AM

Good article on what's in it for Apple to buy TiVo. Seems like a logical move for both companies, especially if Apple really is serious about moving into the living room and/or a future video iPod. Recorded television shows are one of the few remotely legal methods to get video onto one of these new PMP's that are popping up all over the place.

More Xbox 360 details

February 23, 2005 at 08:27 AM

In what I think is another bad move (not including a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD optical drive being the other), it seems the next Xbox will come in two flavors, with and without a harddrive. It'll make it next to impossible for game developers to make games that take advantage of it, since a good portion of owners won't have one.

No free WiFi for you!

February 20, 2005 at 12:24 PM

There is a proposed Texas bill that would outlaw municipal WiFi (cities providing free wireless Internet access.) Nice to see our government is once again working with it's citizens in mind. Didn't I mention before how much I hated politicians?

Up the hard drive size to five or possibly even six gig capacity and give it a color scree. Sweet!

I'll be returning mine to Best Buy soon after it's released.

Mac mini A/V dock (concept)

February 16, 2005 at 10:02 AM
Mac mini A/V dock

Now this is pretty cool. A nice concept for a Mac mini A/V dock that would add additional harddrive space, component video out, port replicator, flash card reader, IR port for a remote, and a front-panel display. Plus it would be quick and easy to pull the Mac mini out of the dock when you wanted to take it somewhere.

This would be great to go along with the Mac Media Center Project.

IE7 beta this summer

February 15, 2005 at 06:10 PM

They're developing a new version of Internet Explorer finally, IE7 should be beta released this summer. Interestingly, it will only be available to people using Windows XP Service Pack 2. Hopefully it will finally have support for a transparent alpha channel in PNG's. And you know, fix everything else that makes it a POS.

In equally awesome news, MS Windows AntiSpyware will remain free. Mucho bueno.

Xbox 360 this October??

February 11, 2005 at 01:51 PM

That's way too soon. There's still enough life in this generation to milk it for more money. Plus by coming out too early they're going to have to skip the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and put good old fashioned DVD player in the thing.
