Google SMS

October 08, 2004 at 09:27 AM

Sweet new service from Google where you can send SMS messages from your cell phone to 46645 (GOOGL) and get back information. For example send "Starbucks 78130" and get the lone Starbucks location in New Braunfels. Pretty damn cool. (via Engadget)

New GMail features

October 04, 2004 at 03:42 PM

Some pretty cool new GMail features are on their way (I don't have them yet.) RSS feed of messages and easier access to contacts are the main things I'm interested in.

Although the Firefox GMail Notifier takes care of me pretty well.

Update: Well I've got the "Contacts" option now, but still waiting for the other things.

MS Access sucks

September 30, 2004 at 03:18 PM

Scrivs reads an article on Microsoft Access vs MySQL. Then he gets mad that no one ever considers PostgreSQL and that the article comparing the two databases goes to pot after a page or two and turns into an advertisement for some product.

Anyways, Access sucks!

Final Nintendo DS Box

September 30, 2004 at 10:08 AM

Nothing too exciting, just an image and story about the final retail packaging of the Nintendo DS. Also a suggested retail price of $149.99 was announced, which is big news because rumors are the Sony PSP will be between $300 and $350. Damn the PSP looks sweet though.

PodUtil

September 28, 2004 at 08:36 AM

Another iPod utility for copying songs from you iPod to your computer. What makes this one stand out is that it compatible with both PC and Mac, and also that it also can rebuild your playlists for you. There has been at least three times when my PC reset my library and I lost all my playlists and ratings (over 1,000 of them!)

UNC punter steals flash drives

September 27, 2004 at 08:50 AM

The University of North Carolina has sucked at football since Mack Brown left, and now they're kickers are stealing from Wal-Mart. Man, they've really fallen on hard times. What kind of jackass tries to steal a bunch of USB flash drives, they're not that valuable and everyone who wants one has one.

Moron.

Synergy

September 24, 2004 at 04:15 PM

Wow.

Open-source software that allows you to "easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware." It even lets you copy and paste from system to the other. Simply amazing and it appears to work as advertised.

Check out some demo videos of the software at work here.

Fat Fingers

September 22, 2004 at 10:10 AM

Fat Fingers searches eBay for common misspellings of terms. Why is that a good thing? Because if the seller can't spell, no buyers can find the item and you can possibly get a very good deal.

Sony PStwo announced

September 21, 2004 at 08:30 AM

New slimmer Playstation 2 was announced that'll be essentially exactly like the original but much smaller. It appears to be about one fourth as thick and two thirds as wide. It really is tiny.

Firefox 1.0PR review

September 17, 2004 at 01:53 PM

ExtremeTech reviews the latest release of Firefox and comes away very impressed.

I've been running version 1.0PR all week and haven't had any issues. Stability has been good and there are several new features. No major new stuff for me (built in RSS reader called Live Bookmarks) and a few of my plugins no longer work (Bloglines notifier for one), but I'm sure they'll be updated soon.

Get Firefox.

iPodDownload

September 17, 2004 at 09:00 AM

It's simple to copy songs off your iPod and onto a PC and there's a few programs that'll do this for a Mac, but this plugin looks like the simplest way to do it yet. Here's the original site, and the new mirror that had to be put up because Apple bitched.

Energizer Quick Switch Flashlight

September 15, 2004 at 12:06 PM

The Quick Switch takes two C, D or AA batteries and works by merely adjusting a switch to the proper cell size, automatically locking the batteries into place. The light output is the same no matter the cell size, though operating time will vary.

There really seems to have been some pretty cool technology with flashlights in the last year or so, such as the Energizer Flashlight/Nightlight.
