The Good Shepherd
Meh. The Good Shepherd was too long and slow and there wasn't really anything great about it. A thriller/drama without many thrills or much drama. If you've got 3 hours to kill and it's on TV it's worth a watch, but I'm not sure I can recommend paying money to see it.

Good movie with an anticlimactic ending. Probably a little overrated too which meant I went into the film with too high expectations and ended up disappointed. Supposedly a great technical film and some amazing camera work and direction, but that doesn't mean too much to me when I was bored for long stretches during the movie. I've got to stop reading reviews or talking to co-workers about movies before I see them.

The Pursuit of Happyness
Good movie and even better performance by Will Smith and and his son Jaden Smith. Not quite as heart wrenching as I thought it would be (maybe I knew too much about the back story) but definitely a great story about a father doing whatever it takes to take care of his son.

Sugar Bowl - Notre Dame vs LSU
Notre Dame is hanging in longer than I thought they would but it seems like LSU is starting to pull away again. I'm not sure about these BCS games being on Fox, Terry Bradshaw is doing an okay job in the booth but it's still kind of awkward. Did the games start so late last year? It was 10pm before the second half even started. Way too late for kids to stay up and watch and learn to love college football.

Good movie but I'd almost rather watch a well produced documentary on the actual abduction of the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games. The first scenes in Munich were the most interesting of the movie, but since they weren't the real focus of the film it moved on pretty quickly.
Eric Bana and his crew are a little bumbling at the beginning of thier mission and for me was too light-hearted for the movie.

I honestly think Steve Martin made this pointless, boring movie so he could make out with a woman 35 years his younger. Mirabelle (Claire Danes) sleeps with people early and often and for no reason for the first 90 minutes of the movie, then the last ten is actually halfway decent. People need to stop giving Jason Schwartzman roles, he creeps me out.

Maybe it's just because it got so many bad reviews, but I thought it was great. Entertaining but far less exciting/enthraling than the book but that's always the case. I really have no idea what most reviewers were expecting, but I thought it did a fair job recreating Dan Brown's religous mystery. There were definitely a couple of bad moments, but certainly no out of place laughter and people in the theater actually applauded when it was over.
Most of the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes are pretty indicative of the problem with movie critics. You've got one complaining the albino monk (Silas) "isn't any fun" and another that it's too long. Useless and hypercritical as usual.
Really worth seeing whether you read the book or not. Just enjoy the damn thing.

I hate movies where it takes people 40 seconds to fall in love, the entire second half of the movie is based on completely stupid events that wouldn't happen in a million years. Not worth renting or owning, maybe in four years when it comes to TBS.

Big 12 Championship
The Texas Longhorns just won the Big 12 championship. They’re going to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl for a national title. I just can’t seem to wrap my brain around that. They had a chance to do something special this season and with today’s resounding victory they’ve done that. After a dissapointing performance in last week’s win, they played essentially perfect football today on both sides of the ball. The line opened more holes in the running game and gave Vince Young plenty of time to throw the football. I can’t remember a single dropped pass and there were several great catches. Jamaal Charles looked great. After giving up some yards on the first two drives the defense came up with huge plays to end both of them. They then settled in nicely and dominated the Buffalo offense.
Great performances all around and one of the most important wins for the program in recent memory. Bring on Southern Cal!

Kansas vs. Texas
Horns can’t really do anymore than they have the last two weeks. Two dominating performances over two much improved Big 12 opponents, both Baylor and Kansas have very solid defenses and the Texas offense went through them like they weren’t even there. Completely dominant and very balanced. We ran and passed at will. The defense has done their job as well. Today the Kansas offense was completely shut down during the first half, not only kept off the scoreboard but had only a single first down in the half. Texas is playing like the best all around team in the country right now.
By the way, Alabama just lost in overtime to LSU and Texas and USC are now the only two undefeated teams. No controversy this year. Finally, if the Longhorns win their next two games they’ll be in Pasadena in January.

Texas Tech at Texas
I have a feeling USC will get a lot more credit for beating #9 Notre Dame by 4 than we will for beating #10 (and #7 in the BCS) Texas Tech by 35. A completely dominating performance by both sides of the ball today and once again I don’t think we played near our best football game. Vince Young finished the game only 12 of 22, but had 239 yards and two touchdowns and made the plays he needed to win the game. Jamaal Charles looked to be about 75% and was clearly limited both by his ankle and the coaches, so Selvin Young stepped up and had a great game. He had 76 yards on the ground and added two good TD runs and just as importantly didn’t put the ball on the ground once. The defense played solid all game long, holding Texas Tech well below their season averages despite the fact that our quick strike offense gave them the ball often. Sure tackling and excellent play by the secondary made it a long game for Mike Leach’s boys.

Colorado at Texas
Vince Young played about as good a game as a quarterback can today. The Rose Bowl is his signature game but he did all of that on his own and most of it with his legs, today he showed everyone that he’s a complete football player. He ran and threw the ball effortlessly today and played a near flawless game. His final stats: 25 of 29 for 338 yards and 2 touchdowns and add 59 yards and 3 more TD’s on the ground. Just as importantly, his receivers showed up today as well. David Thomas had 5 catches and converted several important third downs and Limas Sweed had 7 catches, 88 yards, and 2 touchdowns. I don’t remember a single dropped ball and there were probably 5 fantastic catches. If we had a healthy Jamaal Charles or if we had kept putting the ball in the air in the second half we could have won by 40. A very complete football game by the Horns.

Sloppy and ugly for the first quarter or so. Texas was plagued by penalties and other mistakes throughout the game, especially early on. Once the offense got rolling and the defense settled down it was clear they were the better team. Vince Young played well and made the huge plays when he had to. His scramble on 3rd and 30 was a game changing play. Aside from the ball that was poorly thrown and tipped at the line of scrimmage that resulted in an interception, he made every throw he had to make. He threw for 2 TD’s and had another one (or two) that the refs claimed were incomplete that sure looked like touchdowns to me.
Jamaal Charles is officially the real deal and it’s exciting to finally see Ramonce Taylor getting his hands on the ball again.

Aggies suck
The Aggies are only up by 6 and the half is almost over. Bobcats are driving too and will take the lead if they score. Aggies have gotten several turnovers and big plays but have only put 20 on the scoreboard. Plus they can't stop the mighty Texas State offense either. I predict Texas A&M wins 45 to 31.
I know like at least 5 people on the Texas State roster and a member of the coaching staff. A guy I played with is dominating the formidable
Aggy defensive line.
By the way, the Aggy radio announcers (who are doing the TV for this game) are terrible and have no idea what's going on half the time.

No actual movie scenes since they haven't actually started filming the movie yet, but nice to see it's finally moving along. It's already got a release date too, instead of something like Spring 2006
it actually says May 19, 2006.
I'm not sure what I think about Tom Hanks playing Robert Langdon, he's too famous and doesn't fit the picture I have of him in my head at all.

American Idol finale
I thought Bo deserved to win and have been rooting for him the last six weeks or so, but on first impressions I actually said Carrie would win back when the final round just started. I thought she actually got worse the more country
she tried to be. It sounded like she was trying to have too much twang
in her voice. She's good but could still use a lot of coaching.

24 season finale
I didn't watched all of this season of 24 (Christina did), but I still enjoyed the finale. I think I could handle it a lot better if it was called 6 or something. It's just too long and drawn out and they beat some stuff to death by doing that many episodes. Every year I watch the first part and then get worn out on it and miss the rest.

Surprisingly decent, I thought it was gonna blow big time but it was actually entertaining. Nice realitistic take on the King Arthur legend that wasn't too predictable. Not quite an epic blockbuster

Really good movie that could've been a lot better. The Amazon customer reviews claim there's a ton of blood and gore, but there's not at all. There's one pretty graphic scene and then a lot of implied gore the rest of the time.
Good thriller with lots of plot twists that doesn't have half the story or acting that Se7en did.

About 53 stand-up comedians

Christina and I went to Comic Strip Live while we were in NYC and had a blast. Some of the comics were hilarious, some were good, and a couple were average at best, but all in all it was a great evening of entertainment. The only person I recognized was Judah Friedlander from Best Week Ever
on VH1. He was decent. There were almost too many comedians, we were burned out and ready to go by the end.
Worst part? The audience was pretty small, around twenty people or so, so a couple of the crappier comics thought they'd try to blame their unfunniness on the audience. Over and over again. Say something funny and we'll laugh. And stop asking us where we're from, the eight comics that came on before you already did that bit.
The tickets were only $20, but there was a two drink minimum that ended up costing us sixty bucks or so. The show started at 8:30 and we finally left at midnight and they were still going, so you get a good amount of fun for your dollar.
If anybody is headed that way or lives in NYC and is interested in going, comment and I'll mail you a ticket that'll admit two now through the end of the summer or so.

Twelve Angry Men on Broadway
Amazing.
Read another review!
I still have no urge to see any Broadway musicals, but I can definitely understand why Broadway plays are so reknowned. It was entertaining throughout and very well-acted. I'd never seen the movie, so the story was completely new to me. I'll try to rent it soon.

A couple of relatively well-known actors were in the play. John Pankow from Mad About You
and James Rebhorn from Meet the Parents
among other things were both really good, but the entire cast was at least their equal. Pankow definitely seemed to linger a little longer than everyone else during the curtain call.
In the most obvious statement ever, everyone needs to see a show on Broadway at least once in their lives.

The Alamo
Get it from Amazon.com!
Much better movie than the reviews are giving it credit for, but still pretty average. I'm guessing the biggest problem is that without all the overblown legends, the story is a little boring. Amazon's review calls the battle of the Alamo a bloody 13-day siege,
when really it was 12 days of standing around hoping more people would show up followed by a couple of hours of fighting.
Movie was decent enough that anyone interested in the Alamo should see it. If you're not a fan of any of the actors or the story, then it's probably a movie you can skip.

It wasn't a bad movie by any means, kind of boring in parts though. I wanted to learn more about J.M. Barrie and less about the woman and her kids. It also seems to be focusing more on Peter Gallagher and his eyebrows. Although as we found out at the end of last week's episode, that may be just to provide some background on what is going to screw up Ryan's love life this time.
I enjoy most of the plotlines in the show, except the ones that involve someone feeliing sorry for themselves because they're so damn rich. Marissa's I'm an alcholic because my life is so hard

They got the call right. Whew! They called A-Rod out and put Jeter back at first, that's the correct call. Easy one.
Now the Yankees fans are showing their true colors. Throwing stuff on the field. Sports-radio here in Dallas is going to have a field day with this tomorrow.

Texas vs Mizzou
We may be in real trouble at quarterback. Vince Young and Chance Mock combined for 58 yards passing and two interceptions. Young was actually our leading receiver and Ramonce Taylor (a true freshman running back) was the leading passer.

Pretty good movie, much better than most sports movie and certainly better than any that are about high school sports. Anybody that ever played high school football (especially in Texas) should definitely see it. Entertaining and well done, but still disappointing.

NLCS
Damn the Astros bullpen stinks, sure wish Phil Garner realized that. He keeps pulling his starting pitcher everytime he gets in the least bit of trouble, only to trot out Chad Qualls and Dan Micelli to relieve him. I've seen Micelli pitch like a dozen times this year, and everytime he's come in and given up bombs.

Astros vs. Braves - Game 2
Freaking TiVo screwed up my recording. Damn you TiVo!! How dare you betray me? I thought you and I had something special together.
I got home from work and had to watch the game live (*shudders*), it was already the fifth inning.
Braves are down 2 - 1 in the 7th. Furcal just screwed up and got thrown out at home. Damnit!

Christina wanted to watch Mean Girls but the office doesn't have it in their collection yet. This one was sitting on the front desk and it looked girly, so I thought it would be a perfectly craptacular replacement.
The movie was okay, lame and emasculating, but not horrible. I don't like Julia Stiles, I don't find her attractive at all. And the dude was a bit of a weiner. Story had it's moments and although the ending was predictable, not all of the story twists were.

Astros vs. Braves - Game 1
I really don't know who I'm rooting for in this one. I've loved the Braves since I was a little kid, but Lance Berkman plays for Astros. The Braves would definitely be considered a dynasty if they win another World Series, but Houston has never won a postseason series in franchise series. Tough call.
I'd rather have them both win a series before having to play each other, but at least this way one of them has to win. As long as Lance plays well I'll probably be able to be happy for either team.
Oh, and I TiVo'd it so don't tell me who won damnit!

Pretty good movie. Man, I really like John Cusack and almost every movie he's been in. His old stuff (like Say Anything) and his new stuff (Serendipity) are both great, with the crap in between not so much.
Good movie for those who like court room dramas or Cusack or Gene Hackman. Interesting story that hasn't been covered a thousand times, and an actually unexpected plot twist near the end.

Presidential debates
Jesus. I can't watch this, it's awful.
Are these the two best men we can find to lead our country? I am going to take my cue from Brewster's Millions and vote for “None of the Above.”

Another average movie. There's no recent DVD's out right now that I actually want to see.
The movie wasn't bad, but Matthew Perry was way too “Chandler” for my tastes. He really isn't a bad actor, but he needs to avoid any more roles like this or he's never going to get past his Friends days. The first one was definitely a better movie, but if you like it then this one is probably worth seeing too.

Another decent movie. If you like Kevin Smith's work you should see it, but don't expect a classic Kevin Smith film.

Good movie but not great. Tom Hanks is good, but the rest of the cast isn't. See it if you like Tom Hanks or the Coen brothers.

Scrubs
Best show on TV. Period.
Funny as hell, Zach Braff (as JD) is a hilarious and so is Donald Faison (as Turk). Plus Sarah Chalke (Elliot) is hot and they added freaking Heather Graham to the cast this season.
Awesome show.

Nip/Tuck
My coworker has been raving about this show all summer long but I never had any interest. I hate the idea of plastic surgery and I hate shows about self-absorbed morons, so it sure didn't sound like something I'd want to see.
I watched it the other night, it was great. Entertaining as hell. I'll definitely watch the final two episodes of this season and try to download Season 1 off BitTorrent.

NFL Football
I actually stayed up and watched the entire game last night on Monday Night Football. This year I'm more interested than usual in the NFL, probably because I'm involved in a fantasy league here at work. I've played fantasy football before, but never with nine other people I knew.
Of course I'm still watching plenty of college football, but only one Longhorn game has been on TV so far.

Sports Night

One of the best shows on television, well at least it would be if it was actually still on TV! Cancelled after only two seasons, Sports Night was funny and intelligent. You need to see it if you haven't, especially if you're a sports fan. You can get the whole series on DVD for only around fifty bucks.

Overall, a decent but disappointing movie. Some absolutely horrible moments mixed in with some excellent ones. A definite let down for history buffs, but probably a must-see for Brad Pitt fans.
