The Family Guy

Stewie of The Family Guy

Last week's was unbelievably funny. It's so nice having new Family Guy's to watch again, though there's still a lot of the older ones I haven't seen yet. I got into it after it was already off of Fox.

This and The Simsons on Sunday nights will hopefully help me survive all this reality crap on TV right now.

About 53 stand-up comedians

April 24, 2005 at 09:52 PM
Comic Strip Live

Christina and I went to Comic Strip Live while we were in NYC and had a blast. Some of the comics were hilarious, some were good, and a couple were average at best, but all in all it was a great evening of entertainment. The only person I recognized was Judah Friedlander from Best Week Ever on VH1. He was decent. There were almost too many comedians, we were burned out and ready to go by the end.

Worst part? The audience was pretty small, around twenty people or so, so a couple of the crappier comics thought they'd try to blame their unfunniness on the audience. Over and over again. Say something funny and we'll laugh. And stop asking us where we're from, the eight comics that came on before you already did that bit.

The tickets were only $20, but there was a two drink minimum that ended up costing us sixty bucks or so. The show started at 8:30 and we finally left at midnight and they were still going, so you get a good amount of fun for your dollar.

If anybody is headed that way or lives in NYC and is interested in going, comment and I'll mail you a ticket that'll admit two now through the end of the summer or so.

Not an overly exciting game, but it was definitely cool visiting Yankee Stadium for the first time.

Twelve Angry Men on Broadway

April 23, 2005 at 09:28 PM

Amazing.

Rating: 5/5

Read another review!

I still have no urge to see any Broadway musicals, but I can definitely understand why Broadway plays are so reknowned. It was entertaining throughout and very well-acted. I'd never seen the movie, so the story was completely new to me. I'll try to rent it soon.

Scene from Twelve Angry Men

A couple of relatively well-known actors were in the play. John Pankow from Mad About You and James Rebhorn from Meet the Parents among other things were both really good, but the entire cast was at least their equal. Pankow definitely seemed to linger a little longer than everyone else during the curtain call.

In the most obvious statement ever, everyone needs to see a show on Broadway at least once in their lives.

The Alamo

April 16, 2005 at 10:44 PM

Rating: 3/5

Get it from Amazon.com!

Much better movie than the reviews are giving it credit for, but still pretty average. I'm guessing the biggest problem is that without all the overblown legends, the story is a little boring. Amazon's review calls the battle of the Alamo a bloody 13-day siege, when really it was 12 days of standing around hoping more people would show up followed by a couple of hours of fighting.

Movie was decent enough that anyone interested in the Alamo should see it. If you're not a fan of any of the actors or the story, then it's probably a movie you can skip.

Ocean's Twelve

Rating: 3.5/5

Get it from Amazon.com!

Ocean's Twelve was a movie I wanted to see in theaters but never got around to. It's actually a pretty good sequel, not as good as the first but watchable. It doesn't stand on it's own that well, if you haven't seen Ocean's Eleven you definitely should before watching this one.

My biggest pet peave? The whole outcome relies on the fact that they just didn't bother showing the viewer half the story.

Revelations

April 13, 2005 at 09:50 PM

Revelations is six episode mini-series on NBC about The End of Days (no, not Arnold's movie, it's about the biblical apocalypse.)

I really enjoyed the first episode, but I must admit the fact that Fred Durst is a guest star is a little worrisome.

MLB Opening Day

MLB Opening Day 2005

I watched/listened to the first half of the Red Sox vs. Yankees. It sure is nice to have baseball back on. It's something I can sit down and not worry about rearranging my schedule to catch the entire thing.

I hope TBS is showing more Braves games this year, Major League Baseball has forced them to show more and more games on that damn Turner South network that no one gets.
