They'll be up as long as my bandwidth can take it. (Flash 7 required)

Why would Apple even want TiVo?

February 24, 2005 at 09:33 AM

Good article on what's in it for Apple to buy TiVo. Seems like a logical move for both companies, especially if Apple really is serious about moving into the living room and/or a future video iPod. Recorded television shows are one of the few remotely legal methods to get video onto one of these new PMP's that are popping up all over the place.

More Xbox 360 details

February 23, 2005 at 08:27 AM

In what I think is another bad move (not including a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD optical drive being the other), it seems the next Xbox will come in two flavors, with and without a harddrive. It'll make it next to impossible for game developers to make games that take advantage of it, since a good portion of owners won't have one.

Best WNBA comment ever

February 18, 2005 at 03:33 PM

The ESPN.com Page 2 mailbag includes the best WNBA comment ever:

I came up with a fullproof idea for disproving that the WNBA is a real sport. You choose a person from a city that has a WNBA team and ask them the following question, Would you rather your WNBA team win the championship or be walking along and find a $5 bill on the ground. So far I haven't found anyone that will choose the championship.

Also includes the following non-sports related observation:

The OC's biggest mistake was the way they raced through plots and relied too heavily on the tune in next week! factor, which is a pretty dangerous way to go -- we weren't even midway through the second season when they were playing the lesbian card. At the rate they're going, by Season 4, we'll see Ryan kidnapped by a UFO or something.

I don't get the point of 'The Gates'

February 16, 2005 at 02:07 PM
The Gates

Kottke and many of the other weblogs I read have linked to them over and over, but I just don't understand the purpose of The Gates. They appear to be orange fabric suspended from an orange set of poles, times a seven and a half thousand. They seem to really overwhelm Central Park.

Is it art? A statement? Neither? How did it cost $20 million? I'm not the only one wondering.

NHL officially done

February 16, 2005 at 01:58 PM

Darn. Maybe they'll find someway to combine hockey and soccer, and then maybe Americans will watch it.

Why do we even have a hockey league that (almost) completely resides within the U.S.? There's more fans and more players in Europe, so I'm guessing it is because American owners were dumb enough to pay by far the highest salaries.

Mac mini A/V dock (concept)

Mac mini A/V dock

Now this is pretty cool. A nice concept for a Mac mini A/V dock that would add additional harddrive space, component video out, port replicator, flash card reader, IR port for a remote, and a front-panel display. Plus it would be quick and easy to pull the Mac mini out of the dock when you wanted to take it somewhere.

This would be great to go along with the Mac Media Center Project.

National Lampoon's new movie Blackball will be released in theaters and to DVD within a week of each other. Very interesting to see if bigger movies start doing this. Would I rather pay $16 to see a movie in the theater or $4 to rent it or at most $20 to own the DVD?

I can't see people with good home theater set-ups going to the real movie theater much anymore if this takes off.

Apartment complex sues website over critical posts

February 08, 2005 at 08:38 AM

This is ridiculous. An apartment complex in New Jersey is suing people who made anonymous comments that they sucked.

They are also asking the court to order the website operators to remove the critical posts — which they characterize as unlawful — and keep users from posting negative feedback about their properties in the future.

Instead of suing people, why don't you actually address the concerns? Try fixing the problems or practicing quality customer service? Nah, that would be too easy. Best comment in the article:

What many corporations do not realize is that the negative publicity such punitive lawsuits bring them probably outweighs whatever benefit they would get from getting critical comments removed from a forum, or a critical site taken down.

So true.
