No free WiFi for you!
There is a proposed Texas bill that would outlaw municipal WiFi (cities providing free wireless Internet access.) Nice to see our government is once again working with it's citizens in mind. Didn't I mention before how much I hated politicians?

Blink, Lies, and Videotape
Analyzing Jose Canseco's 60 Minutes interview from earlier this week. Just by watching the two clips with the sound off, I'm guessing Canseco is telling the truth in the first one and fibbing in the second.
What do you think?

Best WNBA comment ever
The ESPN.com Page 2 mailbag includes the best WNBA comment ever:
I came up with a fullproof idea for disproving that the WNBA is a real sport. You choose a person from a city that has a WNBA team and ask them the following question,
Would you rather your WNBA team win the championship or be walking along and find a $5 bill on the ground. So far I haven't found anyone that will choose the championship.
Also includes the following non-sports related observation:
The OC's biggest mistake was the way they raced through plots and relied too heavily on the
tune in next week!factor, which is a pretty dangerous way to go -- we weren't even midway through the second season when they were playing the lesbian card. At the rate they're going, by Season 4, we'll see Ryan kidnapped by a UFO or something.

iPod mini updates!
Up the hard drive size to five or possibly even six gig capacity and give it a color scree. Sweet!
I'll be returning mine to Best Buy soon after it's released.

I don't get the point of 'The Gates'
Kottke and many of the other weblogs I read have linked to them over and over, but I just don't understand the purpose of The Gates
. They appear to be orange fabric suspended from an orange set of poles, times a seven and a half thousand. They seem to really overwhelm Central Park.
Is it art? A statement? Neither? How did it cost $20 million? I'm not the only one wondering.

NHL officially done
Darn. Maybe they'll find someway to combine hockey and soccer, and then maybe Americans will watch it.
Why do we even have a hockey league that (almost) completely resides within the U.S.? There's more fans and more players in Europe, so I'm guessing it is because American owners were dumb enough to pay by far the highest salaries.

Amazon.com - A9 Instant Reward
Amazon.com is now giving a small discount (1.57% off) to anyone who uses their A9 search engine. Not too bad for doing nothing. All you have to do is search approximately once a week, and their block view
is very cool.

La Russa knew about Canseco's steroid use
The most overrated manager in baseball knew about Jose Canseco's steroid use and did nothing about it.

Mac mini A/V dock (concept)
Now this is pretty cool. A nice concept for a Mac mini A/V dock that would add additional harddrive space, component video out, port replicator, flash card reader, IR port for a remote, and a front-panel display. Plus it would be quick and easy to pull the Mac mini out of the dock when you wanted to take it somewhere.
This would be great to go along with the Mac Media Center Project.

IE7 beta this summer
They're developing a new version of Internet Explorer finally, IE7 should be beta released this summer. Interestingly, it will only be available to people using Windows XP Service Pack 2. Hopefully it will finally have support for a transparent alpha channel in PNG's. And you know, fix everything else that makes it a POS.
In equally awesome news, MS Windows AntiSpyware will remain free. Mucho bueno.

Texas gets first 2006 commitment
Wimberley High School offensive lineman Buck Burnette is the Horns' first member of the 2006 class. No one knows much about him (yet), but if the staff offered this early they must be pretty impressed with him.

McCombs officially selling Vikings
Red McCombs is selling the Minnesota Vikings to Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler for approximately $625 million. Fowler will be the first minority to be a majority owner in the NFL.
McCombs bought the team in 1998 for $246 million, which by my estimates means he now has about $379 million to donate to the business school.

SlideShowPro
Wow. Check out the demo of the new SlideShowPro from Todd Dominey. I am really impressed. Looks and works great. Hover over the image numbers down at the bottom, the little thumbnails that pop up are infinitely cool. You can even pull in Flickr feeds!
I will definitely be purchasing SlideShowPro and implementing it here and probably over at the KUHigherEd site.
Very good work and something I'll be able to use over and over again for only $20.

Xbox 360 this October??
That's way too soon. There's still enough life in this generation to milk it for more money. Plus by coming out too early they're going to have to skip the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and put good old fashioned DVD player in the thing.
