Orange Bowl halftime

January 04, 2005 at 09:32 PM

Wow, that was pretty painful. The Orange Bowl halftime show consisted of Kelly Clarkson, Trace Adkins, and Ashlee Simpson. Clarkson was decent aside for one moment when someone in her band decided they should sing louder than she was, it sounded like me singing. Adkins is just a poor man's Toby Keith, which is pretty pathetic. Keith was even at the game because he's a redneck Sooner fan and they couldn't get him. The best... Continue reading

Review: Garden State

December 29, 2004 at 10:25 AM

Great freaking movie. Zach Braff is officially my favorite actor right now, he really should be in more stuff. First Scrubs and now this, I officially have a totally heterosexual man-crush on the guy. The dude even has his own blog on TypePad. If I was lame and bored and had time on my hands I would totally start a Zach Braff fan site, but fortunately for my street cred I'm only two of... Continue reading

Sony, Ken Jennings, and Kottke

December 02, 2004 at 12:01 PM

This is a freaking travesty. Jason Kottke didn't do anything differently than the Washington Post did, but Sony is suing him because they can. He's not even the one who leaked the information or who made the audio tape, he just reported it. Read more backstory here. Anil said everything much better than I could here and especially here. I posted a link to it too, Sony want to sue me too?... Continue reading

Man of the House

November 30, 2004 at 10:12 AM

Man of the House is an upcoming movie from Sony Pictures starring Tommy Lee Jones. The plot? Texas Ranger Roland Sharp is assigned to protect the only witnesses to the murder of a key figure in the prosecution of a drug kingpin -- a group of University of Texas cheerleaders. Sharp must now go undercover as an assistant cheerleading coach and move in with the young women. This is the oddest damn thing I've ever... Continue reading

TiVo to add banner ads when fast forwarding

November 17, 2004 at 09:40 AM

Eh. TiVo is now going to be showing banner ads while your fast forwarding. PVRblog makes it sound like it'll only be if you're fast forwarding through commercials, but I think I may have just read that wrong. The idea bothers me ethically and on principle, but I really doubt I'll actually mind it too much. As long as the ads aren't obtrusive and I can still see what I'm fast forwarding through, I'll... Review: Pat Green's Lucky Ones

November 11, 2004 at 09:22 PM

I already love this CD. I would say I like every single song except for one ("Sweet Revenge" is his apparently obligatory Cajun-sounding song), and even it's not too bad. It's just a great album filled with several different styles of songs, all pretty damn good. "Lucky Ones" is probably his best recent album and will likely have the most commercial appeal of any of his albums. It's definitely still Pat, but he's come... Continue reading

Review: The Perfect Score

November 01, 2004 at 07:17 PM

It was the only thing we remotely wanted to see from Blockbuster. There's just not many good movies out on DVD right now. I guess most of the summer blockbusters are still a ways from coming out on DVD. The movie was decent, especially considering it's from MTV Films. The storyline is decent, but not very original. There's some funny lines, but overall the dialog is lacking. There's worse movies out there I guess,... Continue reading

Review: Friday Night Lights

October 16, 2004 at 12:22 PM

Christina and I went to see "Friday Night Lights" last night, it was entertaining and pissed me off at the same time. The H.G. Bissinger book the movie is based on is easily one of my all-time favorites, I read it several times while I was in middle school and high school. The book does an amazing job telling the story of the Permian High School football team and it's players, but it's just... Continue reading

Leopards are sissies

October 07, 2004 at 02:39 PM

Mike and I just spent the last ten minutes here at work in the break room. We were hoping to see a no holds barred brawl between a leopard and a crocodile. Unfortunately, it appears that leopards are cowards. Originally there was just one of each fighting over a carcass the leopard had killed, but soon there was a twelve croc posse squaring off against the leopard and his two homies. It looked like when... Continue reading

Review: Jersey Girl

September 29, 2004 at 11:14 AM

The first thing you should know about Jersey Girl is that it was written and directed by Kevin Smith. Okay, now forget I ever told you that. If you go into this movie expecting a classic Kevin Smith film such as Mallrats and Chasing Amy, you are going to be immensely disappointed. Jersey Girl is a good movie, but it's not a good Kevin Smith movie. The movie has a cute (see, not exactly... Continue reading

Review: The Ladykillers

September 27, 2004 at 12:15 PM

The Ladykillers is a movie that confused and intrigued me from the very first preview I saw. I wanted to see it when it came out in theaters, but not so bad that I ever actually got around to it. Considering I didn't really know what to expect out of the movie, it actually turned out to be exactly what I expected. What the hell does that mean? It means the movie itself is... Continue reading

DirecTV to add 1500 HD channels

September 10, 2004 at 09:18 AM

According to Gizmodo, DirecTV is planning to launch new satellites in order to add 1,500 HD channels by 2007. Two satellites are launching next year and two more in 2007. No, this doesn't mean I'll have to turn to channel 1244 to watch ESPN6 HD. What it means is that they're actually going to be able to broadcast local channels in HD in whatever market you're in. Cable's ability to give you the local... Continue reading
