iPod upgrade official

July 18, 2004 at 12:43 PM

There's been a ton of rumors in the last couple weeks about the next generation of iPods. Most of the speculation assumed only minor upgrades, bringing several of the advances from the iPod mini into the larger player. Well Steve Jobs announces in a Newsweek article that for the most part the rumors were true. The fourth-generation of iPods will be released this week and be only slightly smaller (one millimeter), have the mini's... Continue reading

Martha Stewart gets jail time

July 16, 2004 at 10:56 AM

Martha Stewart was sentenced to five months in jail and then five more months confined to her home, pending appeal of course. That should be interesting. The part of the article I found most interesting though was that this whole hubbub is because she received an insider tip to sell her IMClone stock before negative news hit, which she did and saved her self a mere $51,000. But if she had never gotten that... Continue reading

Braves are in first place

July 16, 2004 at 09:15 AM

The Braves beat the Expos 8 - 0 last night, and the a little while later former Brave Roberto Hernandez botched a comebacker to lose the game for the Phillies 3 - 2 in extra innings. The Braves win combined with Philadelphia's loss means the two teams are now tied for first in the NL East. The NY Mets and Florida Marlins are both just one game back in what is easily the best... The French are at it again

July 15, 2004 at 11:13 AM

The good old French, they're just so much fun. First they accuse Lance Armstrong of doping because he keeps beating them, and now they're trying to break into his hotel room. If they can't prove he's on drugs, then why not just break in and plant some in his room? Makes sense to me. This isn't just you're average low-life either, this is the freaking French media doing this. Now that's a reputable news... Continue reading

I've noticed something

July 15, 2004 at 08:48 AM

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a bit of a smartass. Okay, maybe a big smartass. Lately I've noticed that I'm having more and more trouble keeping those internal smartass remarks to myself. It seems they're creeping closer to be out loud, and then I'm going to be in trouble. For example, this morning I'm coming down the steps from the parking garage and I see a woman wearing one of those ugly... Continue reading

Jimy Williams out as Astros manager

July 14, 2004 at 02:08 PM

It had been rumored the last several days (weeks? years?) that Jimy Williams would be fired as Astros manager. Today it became official. Houston has fired Williams and replaced him on an interim basis with former Brewers and Tigers manager Phil Garner. The firing wasn't much of a surprise, but the hiring of Garner does seem to come out of left field a little. I hadn't heard his name mentioned for this (or any... Continue reading

Jayson Stark on the Home Run Derby

July 13, 2004 at 12:20 PM

This a great article by Jayson Stark over at ESPN.com. It talks a lot about 5-foot-9 Miguel Tejada winning the thing, about the highly touted home run legends participating (Bonds, Sosa, and Rafael Palmeiro), but by far the most entertaining sections are the conversation with Lance. He makes comments about taking as many pitches as possible, so even if he didn't win at least he was on TV a long time. Then when asked... Continue reading

To "Parent"

July 12, 2004 at 09:44 PM

To the commenter who posted on my "I hate my job" post from back in May: I accidentally deleted your comment (I'm watching the Home Run Derby and was distracted by Berkman's second at bat), but I read it and would like to reply to it. This general idea behind the comment was that this parent was glad that I wasn't a teacher anymore because I'm a loser who couldn't get a real job and... Continue reading

Wow, Berkman is gonna hit right handed

July 12, 2004 at 08:45 PM

Well that's a surprise, Lance is going to bat right handed for the Derby. It's smart to try to take advantage of the Crawford Boxes, but he's such a better hitter from the left side. Well it's a genius idea so far. Already has five homers with only one out! He's hit several bombs as well as a couple line shots. Side note, they just showed that Lance has hit 129 of his 142... Lance Berkman joins Home Run Derby

July 12, 2004 at 10:49 AM

More good news for Lance thanks to Ken Griffey Jr.'s frailty, he'll now be participating in his second career Home Run Derby. It's definitely good for him and it's quite an honor. The more exposure (especially on this kind of stage) the better it is for him and his career. I'm not nearly as excited about it as I am about him starting the actual All-Star Game though, he's always hit a lot of... Continue reading

Fantastic news: Ken Griffey Jr. is hurt!

July 10, 2004 at 09:59 PM

According to Baseball Tonight Griffey is injured (again). Why is this good news? Because if Junior can't play in the All-Star Game that might mean a chance for Lance Berkman to start. He deserved the honor a lot more than Griffey or Sammy Sosa anyways. Berkman's numbers have tailed off (along with the rest of the Astros) the last month but he's still having a better year than almost all NL outfielders not named Bonds.... Continue reading

Ginobili re-signing with Spurs

July 09, 2004 at 12:53 PM

Good news for the San Antonio Spurs, it appears that Manu Ginobili is going to re-sign with the team. It was in doubt for a while there because the Denver Nuggets were talking about throwing some insane amount of money at him. At least a number that was insane for a player who averaged thirteen points and came off the bench last year. You never know what NBA GM's will do these days, after... Continue reading
