Jimy Williams out as Astros manager
It had been rumored the last several days (weeks? years?) that Jimy Williams would be fired as Astros manager. Today it became official. Houston has fired Williams and replaced him on an interim basis with former Brewers and Tigers manager Phil Garner. The firing wasn't much of a surprise, but the hiring of Garner does seem to come out of left field a little. I hadn't heard his name mentioned for this (or any other) job since he was ousted from Detroit. Not exactly a bold move to recycle a manager who couldn't get it done at either of those spots, but he will certainly have more talent in Houston than he ever had before. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
