Coffee is good for you

August 30, 2005 at 10:13 PM

Coffee provides more healthful antioxidants than any other food or beverage in the American diet. Antioxidants might help reduce your chance of cancer, or they might not. Scientifically, we've really got no idea half the time.

Hurricane Katrina blog?

August 30, 2005 at 10:06 PM

In the midst of this horrible tragedy is there really a need to call things a blog just to be in on the latest trends? It's just a running timeline of hurricane updates.

Mike Davidson's MT 3.2 impressions

August 27, 2005 at 07:58 PM

Mike's initial impressions of the upgrades and a few things he's still waiting for either Six Apart or some plug-in writer to take care of.

Sure is nice to know that someone like Mike has Anil and the rest of the crew's ear.

UT student charged with aiding Pitonyak

August 27, 2005 at 12:31 PM

This story gets weirder and weirder. Now the girl who was on her way to Mexico with Colton Pitonyak has been charged with hindering apprehension.

Check out some of the things she supposedly said, I'm not sure how a gunshot, stabbing, and dismemberment can be considered an an accident.

Update: Colton Pitonyak was found guilty of Jennifer Cave's murder and sentenced to 55 years in jail. Visit link

Julio Franco turns 47 today, and for all we know he may really be more like 50. He will become the oldest man to ever homer in a game the next time he hits one out.

NCAA backtracks a little

August 23, 2005 at 08:28 PM

Florida State threatened to sue over the NCAA's moronic ruling and they backpedaled as fast as they could. I imagine the threats and lawsuits will keep on coming till they repeal the whole stupid thing.

49ers lineman Thomas Herrion dead at 23

August 21, 2005 at 06:46 PM

310-pound offensive lineman Thomas Herrion of Fort Worth collapsed and died after the San Francisco 49ers' preseason game against the Denver Broncos last night. He was 23.

This morning's Sportscenter led the show with crap on Terrell Owens and some preseason NFL scores before they bothered to mention the young man's death.

$50 bucks for a four-year-old Apple iBook isn't really even that great of a deal. Laptops are obsolete in about 18 months, these things are ancient.

Verizon FiOS

August 10, 2005 at 08:41 PM

It's hardly available anywhere, but you should definitely check if it's an option where you live. Fiber optics to the premises allow you to get ridiculous speeds and for some reason Verizon is also offering ridiculous prices. 5 Mbps for $40 or 15 Mbps for $50.

I'm paying $50 for 1.5 Mbps from Grande, I'm getting hosed.

NBC to stop annoying the crap out of me?

August 04, 2005 at 08:24 PM

Not that NBC has many shows worth watching anymore, but if I do decide to TiVo something on the network I won't have to worry about the slight variations in show length anymore. They used to begin shows at 7:59 or 8:02 in order to squeeze out a couple of extra advertising dollars, but it also ended up creating scheduling conflicts for DVR's.

TiVo Banner Ads released

Look pretty unobtrusive to me fron the screenshot, though I haven't seen one on my TiVo yet so I can't say for sure. I'd certainly rather have small ads from TiVo if it means they get to stay in business.

digg

August 02, 2005 at 08:57 PM

digg is different. In their words...

Digg is a technology news website that combines social bookmarking, dynamic social RSS, and non-hierarchical editorial control.

The most popular stories make it onto the home page so there's always interesting stuff. I just started using it last week, but check out the stories I'm digging.

Flickr adds new features

August 02, 2005 at 08:45 PM

They've added clustering, which appears to be breaking tags up into more defined terms. Check out turkey, I'm assuming it's looking at the other tags associated with the photo and determining which type of turkey it's talking about.

There's some other interesting stuff too.

Windows Vista Beta 1 Screenshots

First video I've seen.

Definitely looking at least a little promising considering it's the first beta. Hopefully they'll continue to improve things and bring the sidebar back.

My biggest request is instant-on coming out of standby like I get with my Powerbook. It's really amazing to sit down, turn it on and be off and running in a grand total of like 2 seconds. I'm spoiled and want that on all my computers.
