Detroit is a cess pool

March 25, 2005 at 09:14 PM

The city of Detroit really just keeps outdoing itself.

Credit card signature pranks

March 25, 2005 at 06:37 PM

I've taken to half-assing my signature so much on those screens at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. The ones on the self-checkouts are at like a freaking ninety degree angle, how am I supposed to write on that thing?

This guy took it a few steps further after he notices how long it's been since anyone's checked the signature. I could've told him that Circuit City was going to check, Best Buy does too. They check ID and the signature most of the time.

The 10 Commandments of Freelancing

March 25, 2005 at 03:29 PM

A list from Starting Your Career as a Freelance Illustrator or Graphic Designer of some very important things to remember if you're a freelance designer, probably the most important to me is number ten:

Thou shalt never miss a deadline! Be late with a job and chances are, that a particular art director will never call you again.

I've got a lot of work to do tonight to be ready for my meeting tomorrow. I think Christina and I will be able to handle it, and I'll stay up all night if I need to.

Definitely a book I'll check into soon.

Put TiVo files onto PSP

March 25, 2005 at 03:16 PM
PSP plus TiVo equals love

Actually seems pretty simple. Just install one extra thing, add one line to the 3GP .ini file, and drag and drop. Sweet.

I've got no idea what it is, but I'm excited about it. That's what happens when you release things as useful and polished as Basecamp and Ta-da Lists.

PSP Connect

March 24, 2005 at 12:13 PM

A bunch of free videos already formatted to play on your new PSP as well as a tutorial on how to get videos onto the thing.

It's really kind of annoying that you have to name your files a particular way (M4VC0043.MP4 for example) and put them in a particular directory (the folder named 100MNV01). They really should have included software to do that for you.

Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade review

March 24, 2005 at 10:05 AM

I really wanted this game when I saw the previews and screenshots a month or so ago, but now it's just getting average reviews. Metacritic has an average score of 72 for it. I need to read the IGN review, they gave it a slightly higher score and have a more in-depth write up. It still sounds fun, but maybe not worth $40.

Saban open to Williams rejoining Dolphins

March 22, 2005 at 09:07 PM

Still no real word on Ricky's feelings about returning, but it seems Nick Saban and the Dolphins would be open to it. The article actually claims they'd be open to having him and a top round pick like Cedric Benson in the backfield together. I can't imagine them still drafting a running back that early if he comes back.

Bonds may miss entire season

March 22, 2005 at 02:01 PM

Barry Bonds reportedly may miss the entire season because of his knee injury. Maybe this is some sort of hush, hush steroid suspension? Jason Giambi missed almost all of last year, now this. Intersting.

Nice quote to point out why no one likes Bonds and wants him to go down:

You wanted me to jump off the bridge, I finally have jumped. You wanted to bring me down, you've finally brought me and my family down. Finally done it. From everybody, all of you. So now go pick a different person. I'm done. Do the best I can, that's about it.

Ummm, Barry we weren't the ones who brought your family down. It might have been your mistress of nine years.

Postings to a neo-Nazi message board by the MN teen who killed 10 people

I'm sure they'll still try to blame this on Grand Theft Auto somehow.

Daily Show on Elgin and Dr. Phil

March 21, 2005 at 10:53 PM

I was going to do a full post with high quality video pulled off my TiVo, but after an hour of downloading ten different encoders, decoders, demuxers, and multiplexers and then another hour of actually trying to use it I just gave up. It really shouldn't have to be so damn hard.

It's funny, my parents are from Elgin, watch the freaking clip already.

Where's Durstan?

Professional CSS with Durstan

Ethan announced the release of Professional CSS at SXSW last week, and we soon realized that not only was Dunstan not on the cover, his name was misspelled Durstan.

I whipped up the new cover image on the right instead of paying attention to some crappy Flash panel and posted it at Malarkey's, and now everyone is having good fun playing Where's Durstan?

See if you can find him here, here, here, here here, or here.

PSP Video 9

March 21, 2005 at 08:19 AM

When combined with another application, Videora + PSP Video 9 form the first PSPcasting solution, allowing you to download, convert and copy video to your PSP, automatically using BitTorrent and RSS technology.

Now that is freaking cool. PSP Video 9 uses Videora to use BitTorrent and RSS and BitTorrent to automatically find and download what you want to watch. Of course, I don't think I'm ever going to upgrade from the 32 MB Memory Stick Duo card that comes with it so it'll be pretty useless to me.

OutlookMT

March 20, 2005 at 10:40 PM

OutlookMT (MagicFolder) is a utility that monitors a designated Outlook 2003 folder for items. An item placed in the magic folder will be posted to the weblog specified in the settings.

Now that's pretty cool. It would seem to be especially useful to someone who uses an Outlook-integrated RSS reader and wants to post an item. See Scoble's linkblog for an example.

I bet this is the real reason I don't have HD yet, some sort of Cameron Diaz/Britney Spears conspiracy. Damn you!!
