The copyright year dance

December 15, 2004 at 11:49 AM

It's that time of year again. Last minute Christmas shopping? No, no. Time to update the copyright notice on all your webpages. Blake includes several different functions to automate the damn process. This is just my first year change since I've been using MovableType, but I can't believe I never thought to put <$MTDate format="%Y"$> in my footers. Must do it now. Bye...

The NCAA is a joke

December 15, 2004 at 08:52 AM

Um, so how is beating up your friend and almost killing him a medical issue? This is retarded. I'm at a loss for words.

Teen couple gives up parental rights to infant

Wow, a whole ten years of probation for attempting to kill your baby? The New Braunfels courts sure are tough.

NFL helmet prototypes

December 14, 2004 at 12:58 PM

Some pretty cool looking stuff here, unfortunately on a lot of them he doesn't know if they were actual prototypes considered by the teams. Still cool. (via Authentic Boredome - Linkage)

Homemade iPod mini ad

December 14, 2004 at 10:40 AM

Pretty sweet iPod mini ad made by a high school teacher from California. I bet the dude is going to have real jobs thrown at him now. I saw it a few days ago, but was too lazy to post it.

Addendum: I hate URI's with freaking commas in them. What's the deal with that?

Moron Mets offer Pedro 4 years

December 14, 2004 at 09:31 AM

I love the way the Mets throw money at all the wrong people. It's as important to the Braves streak of division titles as Bobby Cox and Leo Mazzone.

Now they're offering Pedro Martinez $50 million over four years, in other words two too many years and thirty million too many dollars.

SMT 5600 vs. MPx220

December 14, 2004 at 08:27 AM

A nice comparison review of the SMT 5600 I've been wanting and the MPx220. They don't really declare either phone the winner, just compare the two and tell you to choose the one that best fits your usage.

The SMT 5600 is more my style and preference, plus it has better battery life and they complain about the MPx's call quality

Blockbuster sorta drops late fees

December 14, 2004 at 08:15 AM

Blockbuster rentals will still have due dates, but now you have a one week grace period after that to get the video in before they sell the movie to you. Pretty cool, but not really a complete abolishment of late fees like they're claiming. It will at least let me avoid those damn times when I have to wake up early and drive the wrong direction to return a video before work. (via Gizmodo)

2004 AP All-American team

December 13, 2004 at 02:49 PM

The Associated Press has released their 2004 All-America team. Derrick Johnson makes the first team and Cedric Benson while Jonathan Scott make the second.

Who the hell is the third team tight end? Texas Tech's Trey Haverty? It's not a good sign if you're on an in-state in-conference team and I've never heard of you.

Update: The 2005 AP All-Americans are posted over at Bevo Sports.

Braves acquire Kolb, move Smoltz into rotation

December 12, 2004 at 10:47 AM

The moving John Smoltz thing was expected, with the other losses in the rotation and his desire to be a starter again it was inevitable. I'm not a big fan of trading their best pitching prospect for a 29 year old closer with one good year and without dominating stuff.

UT football banquet weekend

December 10, 2004 at 07:11 PM

It's an important weekend for Longhorn football recruiting. They need to make a big impression to keep Ryan Perrilloux and make an impression on Roy Miller, Patrick Turner, and RJ Jackson.

Apparently I'm not the only one who has noticed the appearance of spam in my Gmail account the last couple of weeks. All of us seem to be having the same issue.

Google Suggest beta

December 10, 2004 at 02:47 PM

Start typing, it offers suggestions. Very cool. Wonder if this will go through a 2 year beta like Gmail is.

I can't tell if it's basing the suggestion off of the number of results, or the popularity of the search strings. Probably both. (via Anil Dash)
