I've never had issues with the USPS site, probably because I've never tried to actually purchase anything.

Mark Cuban tells Chad Pennington to get a blog

December 21, 2004 at 11:48 AM

The NYC media pissed Chad Pennington off and rather than trying to explain why to that very same group of people, Mark Cuban suggests he should start his own weblog. Not a bad idea.

Norwegian dude proposes via iPod engraving

December 21, 2004 at 10:49 AM

Best part is that some day this guy’s kids are going to ask him about how he proposed to their mother, and their going to be totally incredulous at the thought of an iPod that can only hold 20GB.

Zing.

TAMU's Listeater garners national headlines

December 21, 2004 at 10:30 AM

Old news, but this is the first story I've seen from a reputable place. Fat ugly girl cuts in line, eats list. Best quote?

As she's up there talking, people started throwing doughnuts at her.

Good old Aggies.

MovableType 3.14 released

December 21, 2004 at 08:32 AM

Six Apart has reacted quickly and gotten an update out to fix the server loads caused by comment spam. MT 3.14 (what happened to 3.13?) fixes a major issue for sites out there getting hit by large and frequent comment spam attacks. Previously, if a spammer hit the site and attempted to post tons of comments, each attempt would cause a rebuild even if the comment did not get through MT-Blacklist. Looks like another new version of that is coming soon too.

The main changes in version 3.14:

  • No more unnecessary rebuilds upon comment moderation.
  • Generation of internal bookkeeping data for dynamic pages is not performed when using static pages.
  • New weblogs default to having comment moderation enabled.

Good job guys, I'm sure we all appreciate the swift response.

PCMag reviews MSN Spaces

December 20, 2004 at 11:24 AM

I've lost all respect for PC Magazine. God, MSN Spaces freaking blows and they gave it a four out of five. Everyone has said it's horribly difficult to set up and it looks absolutely fugly. If you want a free blogging service, use LiveJournal.

Texas Tech on drugs?

December 20, 2004 at 09:42 AM

Looks like coaches Bobby Knight and Mike Leach approved purchase of some products containing Ephedra, which is banned in this country. They could be in big trouble if they knew what they were doing, although I'm guessing they had no idea what the products actually contained.

Braves acquire Hudson

December 16, 2004 at 05:54 PM

The Braves traded three players to the A's for Tim Hudson today. Very good pick up for the Braves. Didn't have to give up much to get him either. John Smoltz and Hudson will be a very nice one-two punch at the front of the rotation.

Comment spam load issue

December 16, 2004 at 09:14 AM

Jay Allen from MT and of MT-Blacklist lore comments on the escalating comment spam issues. He discusses a couple of major bugs that cause excess server loads even on set ups with proper comment spam prevention measures in place. Sounds like a patch should be available soon.

Update: Looks like a new pre-beta version of MT-Blacklist is available that fixes a major bug and some minor ones.

Structured procrastination

December 16, 2004 at 08:38 AM

The list of tasks one has in mind will be ordered by importance. Tasks that seem most urgent and important are on top. But there are also worthwhile tasks to perform lower down on the list. Doing these tasks becomes a way of not doing the things higher up on the list.

Shows how come my apartment would get so organized during finals time in college.
