NCAA Football 2006 Q&A
Lengthy Q&A with some a lot more small details than anything I've read before.

Dumbass ABC reality show pulled
I'd seen the previews for ABC's Welcome to the Neighborhood
and found it not only dumb, but pretty offensive as well. Apparently enough other people thought it was a bad idea that they won't be airing the show. Darn, now there's only 476 reality shows that will be on this fall.

What could've made Sideways better
I didn't think it was that bad, but it was certainly an overrated film filled with yuppies who make me want to punch them in the face.

UT wants to bulldoze Player's for hotel
Damn shame, UT wants to build a hotel and conference center and they want to bulldoze Player's to do it. It would be a shame, Player's has great burgers and is an easy walk from campus. I can't really think of any other place they could put something like that though.

Ron Mexico in Blitz?
I know this year's Blitz will focus on a lot of off field issues as well as the traditional gameplay, but I had no idea your QB would be able to contract herpes.
The legend of Ron Mexico grows.

Something I'll have to take advantage of since fixing this site's menu with PNGs is proving to be a pain in the butt.

TexasSports.com using SlideShowPro
Was looking for photos of last night's Texas game and saw that TexasSports.com is using SlideShowPro for their galleries now. I wonder when that happened. They have a separate slideshow set up for each sport, and then each slideshow contains multiple galleries.
Pretty cool implementation.

How to fund your company with online poker
If they're good enough to pay the bills with online poker in 10 - 15 hours, maybe they should spend the other 40 hours playing too.
(Brad) Meador, who is head of operations at ClearContext, and Deva Hazarika, the chief executive officer, have been playing poker in lieu of collecting paychecks for the past year while working to get their three-person company off the ground. After logging 50 or more hours a week at the office, each one spends another 10 to 15 hours, usually on weekends and evenings, at their favorite poker sites--mainly Partypoker.com, Ultimatebet.com and Pokerstars.

Strategy for maximizing page views
I started posting excerpts on my homepage a couple of months ago and I just started putting just excerpts into my archives last week. The homepage I did to give a quick overview of everything going on with the site, while I switched the archives to conserve on bandwidth. Googlers were coming in and pulling 30 entries at once and getting a huge amount of images too when they were hitting my category or date-based archives. I paginated them too and I saved on bandwidth big time Friday and Saturday.

NCAA Football 06: Diary of a Heisman Hopeful
IGN walks through the Race for the Heisman
mode in NCAA Football 2006. I'd love to try it, I wonder if you can do a traditional dynasty simultaneously with that mode. I'd like to create a guy and then have him play for Texas.

DVD Decrypter is no more
Well that's a freaking shame, I've been using DVD Decrypter since I first got a DVD burner two years ago and it's a wonderful product. Since the commercial DVD burning software won't let you make back ups of your own movies, you could always use DVD Decrypter to rip your movie so you could then burn it.
R.I.P. DVD Decrypter

FCC Accelerates Digital TV Compliance Date
FCC has notified TV manufacturers that all TV's between 25 and 36 inches must include digital tuners by March 2006 and all TV's larger than 36" must be equipped with the tuners by July 1st of this year.
It may be harder to eBay that Samsung digital tuner I just bought next year than I originally thought.

T-Mobile tops in customer care
Looks like T-Mobile is the top rated wireless carrier in customer care rankings. I never really even thought about it, but I haven't had any problems with them in years. I can almost always get a strong signal even from inside my apartment and inside my office. If I do have any problems (knock on wood), it's good to know their customer service is top notch.

Plunk Biggio
A weblog "Dedicated to Craig Biggio and his (probably unintentional) Quest to break the all time major league career record for getting hit by pitches."
Although he's having a good season, I wish he and Jeff Bagwell had stopped getting plunked two years ago before their salaries and talent decline started to really hurt the Astros.

PS3 not shipping with a hard drive?
If they could somehow not include the harddrive but still require it, I'd be all for it. I'd much rather pay $300 for the PS3 and $50 for a 120GB hard drive than pay $465 for a PS3 with a 40GB drive.
But as the other commenters are saying, game makers aren't going to make games that take advantage of it if it's not almost universal.

Rocket to Rangers?
Now this might actually make sense for the Astros and Clemens. The Rangers are actually in contention and have prospects to trade, while there is essentially no reason for the Astros to deal with the Yankees.
We'll see what happens if the Astros keep playing this poorly and the Rangers this well.
