I hate the biased sports media

May 03, 2005 at 07:18 AM

More of this crap again this year? At least last year, the media waited until the Astros seemed to be out of it in mid-July before declaring they should just give away all their good players to a team in a major market in the northeast.

Roger Clemens

The article claims the Astros are so awful that they have no choice but to unload Roger Clemens to a team that is a true contender like the Yankees. Ummmm...

First off, it's freaking May 2nd. They've played 24 games, or one-sixth of a full-season. Let's wait a little while before we all abandon ship. They're only a few games behind the Cardinals and barely behind the sure-to-plummet Cubbies. Plus, they're about to have their best player, Lance Berkman, in the lineup for the first time all year. They've won three straight and I'm pretty sure they're capable of making up four or five games over the next 138 games.

Secondly... the Yankees?? I mean seriously, the Yankees? Last I checked they're off to a worse start than the Astros. They're struggling pretty mightily and don't have remotely the starting pitching the Astros do. They and the Red Sox are in about the same situation in the American League East as Houston is in the National League Central.

Oh no! The Yankees and Red Sox aren't in first place! Quick everybody, send them all your best players in exchange for Andy Phillips and a box of peanuts! Morons.

Update: Oh look, two stories about it in one day. Joy!

I would take the Yankees top 3 starters over the Astros top 3 starters.

If you'd rather have Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, and Carl Pavano than Roger Clemens, Roy Oswalt, and Andy Pettite you're an idiot.

All 3 of the Astros are having a better season than any of the Yankees. Clemens and Johnson are pretty even talent-wise, but Oswalt and Pettite are much better pitchers than anything the Yanks can counter with.

I think you are just proving that you are a homer. If anyone talks bad about the Astros or Braves, you freak out.

Like you say, it is only May 3nd, so saying the Astros pitchers are having a better season is pretty worthless.

Johnson > Clemens - I would take Johnson over anyone in the league behind Santana. I would say both Clemens and Johnson are pretty comparable, but Johnson being a lefty gives him the edge here.

Pavano > Pettite - You can't rely on Pettite, he always seems to have injury problems. He will probably pitch only 110 innings this year. Pavano was an 18 game winner last year and is just starting out slow due to being in the media hungry city of New York. He will adjust to the pressure.

Oswalt > Mussina - I will give you this one. But, he pitches like a pansy and doesn't have the capability to be a "dominate" pitcher. Mussina does have that ability, just doesn't show it often.

I count the score 2-1 in favor of the Yankees, so sorry, you lose.

Well, the pitchers are one thing, but the line up change worked out well tonight didn't!

Now this might actually make sense for the Astros and Clemens. The Rangers are actually in contention and have prospects to trade, while there is essentially no reason for the Astros to deal with the Yankees. We'll see what happens...
