California teen beats friend to death with bat

April 14, 2005 at 03:10 PM

A 13-year-old boy beat a 15-year-old to death with a bat at a Little League concession stand after being teased. Parents today rock!

I'm sure Jack Thompson will be all over this one.

More on freelance design rates

April 13, 2005 at 09:31 AM

Good info about how much freelance designers are charging per job and per hour. Looks like I'm definitely on the low end, but that's understandable since I'm still just starting out.

All the rates are in British pounds, so keep in mind £1 is roughly $1.89 US right now.

Windows Longhorn Live?

April 12, 2005 at 03:14 PM

The screenshot appears to show MSN Messenger, DVR features, and Quickbooks all integrated into the bar on the right side.

I really like the sidebar concept, in fact I'm using Desktop Sidebar right now to try to mimic the functionality in XP.

Jermaine O'Neal thinks NBA age limit is racist

April 12, 2005 at 01:45 PM

How is that racism? Almost all college basketball players are black too. That makes no sense. Agree or disagree with an age limit in the NBA, the idea that it's racist is moronic.

For every Amare Stoudemire and LeBron James, there's 10 Leon Smith's.

Why can't anyone throw a baseball faster than 100 mph?

April 12, 2005 at 09:08 AM

Good article on why major league pitchers aren't throwing a baseball faster than 100 MPH even as they're getting bigger and stronger.

Norton Internet Security 2005 - Free after rebates!

April 11, 2005 at 09:59 AM

Norton is my preferred antivirus software, eventhough I'm running ZoneAlarm at home these days. (I needed a new firewall and AV and it was cheaper at the time.)

Anyways, the entire Norton Internet Security suite is only $30 for new users or free for upgraders at Buy.com right now. Hell of a bargain to get antivirus, firewall, antispam, etc all in one package.

RonMexico.com

April 11, 2005 at 08:36 AM

Michael Vick is being sued by a woman who claims he knowingly gave her an STD. He allegedly uses the name Ron Mexico for the purpose of his testing and treatments.

Berg tried to buy the RonMexico.com domain but was one day too late. Now whoever beat him too it has a site up with nothing but a link to a CafePress store. My favorite item is the thong.

Forgent Networks is the devil

April 11, 2005 at 08:23 AM

Our good friends from the JPEG patent, Forgent Networks, are now going after TiVo because they have a patent that addresses recording television signals to a computer. These people seriously need to be stopped.

Orangebloods.com 2006 football recruiting board

April 08, 2005 at 01:28 PM

The Longhorns now have 17 commits for the 2006 season, 4 or 5 of them are considered the best in the state at their positions. At this time last year we had maybe one or two, and even on Signing Day only 14. Not too shabby.

This is one of the few free articles from Orangebloods, a pay site that I try to quit but can't.

Update: Want more info on Texas Longhorn recruiting? Check out BevoSports.com!

April 08, 2005 at 09:56 AM

Been looking to get either a 512 MB or 1GB stick so I can put video on my PSP, this is by far the cheapest price I've seen. These go for like $200 on Amazon. I cancelled my order from BestBuy.com and ordered one.

Head football coach shot in Canton, TX

April 07, 2005 at 11:28 AM

A parent shot the head coach/athletic director in Canton, TX this morning. There's no word on his condition, but I'm fearing for the worst. At this time of day, he was probably sitting in his office alone working, and since the gunmen got away....

Discs Are So Dead

April 05, 2005 at 11:28 AM

Wired writer claims neither Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will win because the future of content distribution is via the Web. I don't know if I agree because I have my doubts about Hollywood's willingness to distribute content right to your hard drive. I don't really think that makes it any easier to pirate than optical media, but Hollywood is dumb.
