The Perfect Score

October 30, 2004 at 10:56 PM

Rating: 3/5

Read my full review!

If you like Scarlett Johansson or atypical high school movies you should check it out. The storyline has a major flaw and the dialog isn't too great (except from Leonardo Nam), but it's mildly entertaining.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

October 29, 2004 at 03:55 PM
gta_sa.jpg

The last two installments of the Grand Theft Auto series are two of my favorite games of all time, but for some reason I never finished either one of them. I was a little late to the game with GTA III, but with Vice City I got it the day it came out but still my ADD ass managed to find something else to do before I finished it.

Grand Theft Auto is getting awesome reviews, but I just picked up Burnout 3. I'll probably hold off on it a little while till it's cheaper and I'm not playing anything else. Either way, I'm definitely playing this game soon.

XM Radio

October 29, 2004 at 03:19 PM
Delphi SkyFi 2 XM receiver

I almost got Christina to get XM Radio for me last Christmas, and now I'm kinda wanting it again. The addition of Major League Baseball is a big plus and something that gives XM a few more points. Plus Delphi has released the new SkyFi 2 receiver that looks really sweet and can even pause and rewind live radio, pretty cool.

I really like the general concept and almost everything about it, except for the after-market implementation. You end up with wires and crap all over your car and it just looks like crap. Maybe I'll hold off till my next car and get it factory installed.

Not the World Series

October 27, 2004 at 08:35 AM

Talk about a let down. After watching almost every inning of the two great League Championship Series, I haven't seen more than three total innings of the WS. There was so much national interest in the Sox and Yankees series and I had so much interest in the Astros versus Cardinals series that I guess I just don't give a damn which team wins now.

I can't decide what's going to happen if Boston wins the whole thing, is it going to make the media talk more or less about them?

The Day After Tomorrow

October 26, 2004 at 02:11 PM

Rating: 3.5/5

Get it from Amazon.com!

A surprisingly entertaining movie. The first previews I saw for it had me really wanting to see it, but as I saw more and more previews the less I wanted to see.

Turns out it was actually pretty decent. There's a couple moronic things in it and I can tell why it got poor reviews. The worst part of it is that there are several storylines that they just completely forget about in the end. They spend time building relationships between characters, and then when the real action starts they seem to have forgotten what the hell they were doing.

If you like seeing crap blow up and other stereotypical action motifs, then The Day After Tomorrow is worth checking out.

Jewfros are cool

October 25, 2004 at 08:53 PM

One of the random members of Linkin Park has a nice little jewfro going, he needs to grow it out more though before I give a damn about him. Damn the RMA's suck, they got like the two worst members of the group.

Burnout 3: Takedown

Burnout 3: Takedown

I sold NCAA 2005 last week on eBay and turned right around and used that money to buy this game.

Great so far. I haven't played it a ton, but I really enjoy it.

The game is flat-out fun. Graphics do a great job of making you feel the speed and the collisions. Fun stuff.

Miracle

October 22, 2004 at 01:31 PM

Rating: 3/5

Get it from Amazon.com!

Eh, the movie was pretty good but I really would have preferred just to see a well researched and produced documentary on the team than an actual movie about it. I guess the fact that I do already know the story so well from multiple documentaries meant the movie showed me nothing really new.

Another well done sports movie though, I'm no hockey expert (thank God) but it seemed to be pretty accurate with all the on-ice action. There weren't really any times when I was disgusted by a lack of realism or anything.

The UPS guy

The Crocodile Hunter

The UPS guy that comes by work every day is a dead ringer for The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin.

He's about 5'7" and wears that stupid brown uniform and goes with the shorts over the pants. Nice choice. The uniform looks like a browner version of a safari outfit.

WTF is stumping?

October 21, 2004 at 09:06 AM

"Kerry stumps in Ohio" and "Cowboys officials stump in preparation for stadium vote," since when is stumping a political term? According to Dictionary.com:

To go about making political speeches.

I've seen or heard the word stumps used like this 100 times in the last week, but I had never heard it before that. Is it suddenly clever to use it?

The Yankees choke

October 20, 2004 at 09:12 PM

I refuse to give the Red Sox much credit, the Yankees blew this series. I couldn't be much happier, unless it had ended with an easy ground ball going off overrated Derek Jeter's overrated glove and through his overrated legs to allow the winning run to score.

Lost

October 20, 2004 at 08:03 PM
Evangeline Lilly

Great drama, easily this season's best new show. It's actually original too. When I first saw the previews and then the pilot, I thought it was going to be a mini-series. There was a ton of action and drama and story development starting from the very first episode. It seems every character on the show has some sort of hidden story, and we're slowly finding them out.

It's even available in HD, not like I can take advantage of that or anything. (Grande sucks!)

Evangeline Lilly is freaking hot by the way. Mmmmmm... Canadian chicks.

Why can't I win an island?

October 20, 2004 at 06:03 PM

I know Texas kicks the rest of the loser states' asses, but why does that mean I can't win my own damn island?

Capital One has included a scratch-off card inside junk mail that I probably wouldn't open anyways, that could allow you to win your own private island or one of a bunch of tropical vacations. But if you watch the fine print closely in the commercial, you'll see this bull crap:

Game open only to legal residents of the U.S., its territories and possessions (excluding residents of TX and Puerto Rico), 21 years of age or older at time of entry.

I mean come on, PR is already an island (albeit a pretty crappy one) so I can see them not getting a chance. Hell, even Hawaii residents get a shot. Texas really should secede.

I hate you Capital One, and your damn contest!

A-Rod cheating

October 19, 2004 at 10:20 PM

Wow! If the umps don't get this right and the Red sox go on to lose, the city of Boston may go berserk. Alex Rodriguez intentionally reached out and knocked the ball loose. Wow.

They got the call right. Whew! They called A-Rod out and put Jeter back at first, that's the correct call. Easy one.

Now the Yankees fans are showing their true colors. Throwing stuff on the field. Sports-radio here in Dallas is going to have a field day with this tomorrow.

Texas vs Mizzou

October 17, 2004 at 05:38 PM

We may be in real trouble at quarterback. Vince Young and Chance Mock combined for 58 yards passing and two interceptions. Young was actually our leading receiver and Ramonce Taylor (a true freshman running back) was the leading passer.

Pretty good movie, much better than most sports movie and certainly better than any that are about high school sports. Anybody that ever played high school football (especially in Texas) should definitely see it. Entertaining and well done, but still disappointing.

ESPN the Magazine

Rating: 4/5

Get more info!

"The Magazine" is actually really good, especially considering I get it for free with my ESPN Insider subscription. I think ESPN went the right route when they decided to focus on the future instead of writing on what had already happened. For a sports magazine it's really the only thing you can do and stay useful. I get my sports news the instant it happens via TV or the Internet, I don't need a magazine telling me the story again a week after it happened. Good articles and photography (although the SI photos were always spectacular, and not just in the swimsuit issue.)

NLCS

October 15, 2004 at 08:30 AM

Damn the Astros bullpen stinks, sure wish Phil Garner realized that. He keeps pulling his starting pitcher everytime he gets in the least bit of trouble, only to trot out Chad Qualls and Dan Micelli to relieve him. I've seen Micelli pitch like a dozen times this year, and everytime he's come in and given up bombs.
