NFL Wonderlic Test Scores

March 07, 2005 at 09:11 AM

Look at Hangartner representing New Braunfels well. Kicked pretty much everyone's ass on the thing. Other thoughts from the combine results...

  • Frank Gore is a moron.
  • Damn OU lost a lot of players this year.
  • Fabian Washington is a fast SOB, too bad he can't cover anybody.
  • I sure would take a chance on Bo Scaife in round 7, if it weren't for his knees he'd go in the first three rounds.

Update: Here's some more information about the test the NFL administers, and here's some sample questions (PDF). Learning disability or not, a score of 6 is next to impossible for someone who is supposed to have a college education.

Yeah, stupidity is definitely a learning disability.

Jmood88, He graduated from college with a learning disability...ok. He should still get better than a six! I just gave the 15 question sample from espn.com to my neighbor who is 11 years old and he got 5 of them right. One less than the 22 or 23 year old moron from miami.

A learning disability doesn't mean that someone is stupid, what it means is that they learn differently than others. And I don't know why I would lie about him having a disability.

The actual test the NFLers take is 50 questions that they have 12 minutes to take. The ESPN test is a scaled down version. I would guess that if you multiply your score on the ESPN version by like 2.5 you would get an approximate of what you would score on the full test.

Try again. A sample test of 15 questions divided by 50 full test questions is .3 of the actual test, not 2.5, to extrapolate the correct percentage. I scored 13 out of 15 on the sample test in about 90 seconds (86.66%) , therefore I would conceivably score a 43.33 on the actual test.

That actually isn't totally correct either. The test is designed to get increasingly harder as it progresses. In fact, the vast majority of people who take it don't complete all 50 questions (which is why the average score is 20).

These scores just show that our academic system is failing. Athletes get better treatment. If Frank Gore had attended one college math class or even a high school math class he would know how to do simple fractions and multiplication. I would bet that you could get at least a 10 if you could add and subtract.

That Moron makes more in one NFL season with his bonus than your sorry ass will ever make in your entire lifetime. I tutored students at the University of Miami that have learning disabilities. You obviously don't know the facts about what a learning disability is. I hope at least 2 of your children have it just for making fun of it [expletive deleted]!!

Frank Gore didn't score a 6 because he has a learning disability, he scored a 6 because his entire life people told him that it was okay to be stupid because he had a learning disability. Add in the fact that he's a top caliber athlete and he was never once forced to truly overcome his disability.

If you graduate high school and go to college, at some point you have to stop letting people make excuses for you and be accountable for your successes and failures. I'm pretty sure in the real world, your boss isn't going to give you extra time for your report or hold your hand just because you have an LD.

Frank Gore does have a diagnosed learning disability so everyone quit making fun of it. A good friend of mine has a mental problem recalling short term memory. They physically can not do it. Therefore, they don't do well on tests or in school regardless of anything else. So quit judging.

Whether he has or doesn't have a learning disability is irrelevent. What is important to note is that he graduated high school as an illiterate and made it through how ever many years of college as an illiterate. How did he pass his classes? The million dollar answer...somebody gave him a free pass. Anybody that could score a 6 on that test would have trouble passing a phys ed class that had a written test at the end, yet a stud athlete can stay in college for 3 years without being able to read. You could score a 6 on that test without reading the questions, so don't give us this L.D. crap! He should be institutionalized, because anybody that stupid is a danger to himself and to society!

Poor Frank Gore. [expletive deleted] you need to pull franks junk out of your mouth. "At least he is doing something with his life." Please. He can run while holding a football WOW. He does not "learn differently" he does not learn at all. He has not one redeeming quality to contribute to society. If he wasn't an athelete he would be "slinging" drugs on a corner somewhere. If he went to a High School that didnt have a football team I have a sneeky feeling he would be attending GED preperatory classes as we speak.

23 not as perfect as you said...

Wow, it must be nice to be so smart and accomplished as you guys. For your information, becoming a professional football player is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, something that most of you will never be able to do. I have taken the Wonderlic test. It is not as easy as ESPN or the popular media makes it out to be. That sample test is a joke. Before you get on someone, know what you are talking about. I scored fairly well on the test, but did not find it to be as easy as everyone seems to think. By the way, after I finished playing football, I got my Masters degree and now run a successful business. Be careful of mocking things that you don't know about - dumbass.

Yes it does take hard work to be a "student athlete", which luckily Mr. Gore never had to do, because based on his test scores he would have failed miserably. He probably saw that test a dozen times before he took it. If he didn't his agents should have been beaten. He has had a free ride his entire life. Some of us had to work hard in college. As a Division II soccer player I didn't have the luxury of having a full-ride scholarship and a free tutor to write my papers. And by the way, I have an M.B.A. and a M.S. in Economics. Not that hard to get. Just takes effort. Get off of your high horse.

not as perfect as you it is funny that you side with Mr. Gore. You (at least supposedly) have worked hard and have spent nights doing homework and writing papers. I would advance the argument that Mr. Gore has done niether. Make all of the excuses you want for the retard. I understand that there are people out there who are not good test takers who's test scores may not accurately reflect thier intelligence. A guy who scores a 20 could quite actually be a 15 or 25. But if a guy scores a 46 he either cheated or he is very smart. And if a guy gets a 6 he either has down syndrome or he genuinely does not know any of the answers. I must remind you that at least some of the questions are T & F and multiple choice. While you may have been only good enough at sports to be a student/athelete Mr. Gore was good enough to be allowed to be just an athelete. Say whay you will but you are wrong. If he is so smart you should let him manage your company's financial records.

I don't care how difficult the test progressively gets...He got a 6...In 12 minutes, there weren't more than 6 questions that he could answer correctly? If Gore truly has a legitimate LD, it is a shame that it was never properly addressed. Gotta love Miami! A private school where a non-athlete has trouble getting in because they need such a elevated high school gpa...Maybe the wonderlic should be an entrance exam for UM..score more than 5 and you are in...what a joke.

I bet you could just randomly fill-in the answers and score a 6 on that test. Maybe he did that. Because anybody dumb enough to score a 6 when they're trying might also have trouble mastering tasks such as adding 1 + 1 and finding the verb in a sentence like 'Spot ran home.' If a score of 21 roughly equals an IQ of 100, then a 6 must mean he has an IQ of, what, 30. Hell, I am actually jealous. Most people have to think at least ocassionally. Not good ole' Frank. He just has to run a football. Good for him. He just better hope that knee doesn't give out for good.

Think about it. What is the point of the test. It's easy for us to talk sh*t about these guys for getting a low test score but who gives a damn. They're football players not lawyers. Dan Marino only score a 16!!! 16 out of 50 is not jumping off the charts here. Didn't someone say a 11 year old scored a 5. What did the likes of Ryan Leaf scored? I'm quite sure his scored was better than a 16. What a career he had? Wonderlic is very over rated. Vince Young threw for over 260 yards and ran for another 200 against the defending champs and the number 1 team in the nation. You can down talk USC defense but name one team inwhich two players combined(QB and RB) did what Vince Young did against them. I'm not a big Vince Young fan but facts are facts. He needs a better agent. That's why his score was low. The players don't take the wonderlic serious. Why should they? Players on that level did nothing but play football all their life. TEXAS is a football first state. Just my input.

One other thing. Have any of you all ever seen a NFL playbook? How about a college playbook? Let's try highschool. I quite sure a few of you have. Some high schools are very simple. But in college and the NFL, it gets a little complex. I know a lot of talent players that didn't make because they couldn't comprehend a playbook. A playbook isn't this simplex people.

Ryan Leaf scored a 27 on the Wonderlic, Ben Roethlisberger scored a 25 and Pat McInally (Punter from Harvard) once scored a 50.

So what is the point here? True, you don't necessarily need a great deal of intelligence to grab an inflated leather spheroid and attempt to run past 4 large menacing giants in hopes that the slightly smaller menacing giants lined up behind them don't take your head off as you are trying to avoid the first 4.

But, it does beg the question...Why do they take this test if it means nothing? Also, I think a lot of people are misunderstanding some of the anger people are expressing towards Mr. Gore, Vince Young, and others who have failed so miserably at this test. The fact is that they have been given the opportunity to succeed and make millions of dollars at the expense of others. As pointed out earlier, many students are not let in to many of these prestigious universities because they didn't have a GPA in the top 10% of their class or may have only scored a 1250 on their SAT's. Yet, somehow these guys make it through three or four years of college with practically no abilities or a learning disability. If this is the case, than the NFL just needs to pony up and start a "Minor Leagues" to give these guys the 2-4 years of training they require before coming into the NFL and let STUDENTS take back their fate at our top universities.

I love football. I love most any sport and have competed at the college level and still do at the state level (I'm 40 now). I'm positive that if I wasn't up to snuff academically or had a learning disability I wouldn't have made it far in college. And by the way, I have two brothers who were diagnosed with dyslexia. One applied himself and graduated from a state university and now holds a very good job. The other chose not to go to college but sought help for his disorder and works at a good job and lives a normal life. Please, no excuses for ANYONE just because they happen to be good at football, basketball or any sport. We are talking about STUDENT athletes. If Frank Gore hadn't gone to college we wouldn't need to have this discussion, would we?

I don't understand your point. My point was simply. Ryan Leaf scored very well on his test but he is no longer in the league. Dan Mario did not score so well and he's an Hall of Famer. The test wasn't a big deal when Dan Mario didn't score high. As for you saying these guys are taking away from other students that's bull. Like you said, your brother over came. If Vince Young couldn't make it into Texas, you think he would've gave up and NOT play at a different school. I have a friend that went to Havard and he received a real good job before he graduated. Is it wrong for him to leave early for this job? No, of course not. But I know you hear a lot of these football and basketball players should stay in school. Why? You go to school to learn. It don't matter if it's law, medicine, science or FOOTBALL. Yeah, football is a job isn't it. If you're not good in math, I don't if you'll be an engineer of any type. Hey, if you're not atheletic or good at sports, you're not going to be a football player. So getting back to my original point, what good is the Wonderlic. Steve Young got his bar, now if he was his own agent, that would've really came in handy. Gore is a millionare. That's success!!! Vince Young will be a millionaire, that's success!!! They both probably failed math and barely passed english but they were on the Dean's list in football. Stop looking at the players and look at the universities that made millions and millions off of these guys. It's cool for the school but not the players?

Frank Gore has dyslexia, and as a result, cannot do timed tests such as the Wonderlic or the SAT without removing the time constraint.

Anyways, he legitimately obtained his degree, so he's definitely not a dumbass.

Wonderlic is just a test, just like a college degree is nothing more than a piece of paper you pay for more often than not.
I had an employer require the Wonderlic for employment so I took it, without any preparation. Scored a 35 and the idiot asked if I cheated becuase I scored higher than him. You see he had an MBA and I have a G.E.D.
Mathematically I figured I scored a 70% (35/50) but found out that 35 is pretty high on that test. I put it on my resume and hit has done little justice. Maybe I should try out for the NFL.

Legitimately "earned" a degree?
The education system is all about money, not whether you know the material.
Frank Gore was most likely a scholarship athlete hence they pretty much cater to him. I have met brught and dumbasses with degrees. A person's intelligence has nothing to with whether they have a degree, nor does a degree determine trainability.
