purevolume is a great music community site from the guys at Unborn Media (with several guys from Neubix.) Seems like there's a lot of good bands I've never heard of and most have streamable and even downloadable mp3's songs available. You can even search for upcoming shows in your area.
Will definitely be checking back to see if there are any good new bands in the charts.

Yeah, but unlike MySpace this thing isn't a freaking eyesore. Plus according to the MySpace top plays of the day, a wannabe Playboy chick, Nelly, Beyonce, and Ashlee Simpson are all in the top 10. Not exactly a good sign for the quality of "new" music I can find there.

It's pretty much myspace music, just later to the game and with fewer users. And for upcoming shows, I always hit upcoming.org or www.showlistaustin.com for Austin gigs.
