My MLB 2005 Predictions: National League Edition

Busy, busy, busy lately, so my National League picks took a while to get done. Maybe since I've seen a few games they'll actually be a little more accurate, I doubt it.
Starting off with the easy one, the NL East...
- Atlanta
- Florida (Wild Card winner)
- Washington
- Philadelphia
- New York Mets
First and second were pretty easy to choose, after all the Braves have won thirty-seven division titles in a row. Florida has a great young pitching staff that seems finally ready to turn the corner, if Josh Beckett stays healthy. As for the other three, I think they're going to fight it out and be pretty evenly bad. The Nationals should be decent and finally having a real home should really help. I think they'll be the one's battling it out for the division in a couple of years. The Mets stink.
The Central...
- St. Louis
- Houston
- Cincinnati
- Chicago Cubs
- Pittsburgh
- Milwaukee
I don't really see the Cubbies seriously competing in the division. Even if Mark Prior and Kerry Wood were both healthy all year, I'd still have them third. They're overrated because the media wants them to win, not because they actually think they're going to. I think the Cardinals probably run away with the Central unless Lance Berkman comes back in early May and Houston's big three pitching staff makes 28 - 30 starts apiece. If the Astros find some way to sneak into the playoffs, they'd actually be my favorite to win the darn thing. Roy Oswalt, Roger Clemens, and Andy Pettitte in a five or seven game seriess would be tough to beat.
And finally the worst division in all of baseball, the NL West...
- San Diego
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco
- Colorado
- Arizona
This was a boring division with Barry Bonds in it, now it's downright unwatchable. If he comes back pretty sooon he and Jason Schmidt will carry the Giants pretty far, but if he doesn't return till June or worse, the Giants will be in deep trouble. Colorado and Arizona could both lose 90 games.
Man I love National League baseball, the DH ruins everything. I'm really excited to watch the Braves this season, it should be another good one. I really wish Lance hadn't gotten himself hurt, the Astros would've been pretty darn good this season. Hopefully he comes back and shows everyone just what a difference he can make.

OK the only thing I would disagree with is the Wild Card. I agree it is hard to bet against the Braves, but are you confident that the wild card will come out of that division? My guess is that the Central will produce the wild card. Probably Astros because of their staff. You are forgetting Backe and Lidge. Lidge IS the best closer in baseball right now. My fear is whether or not the starting three can stay healthy, not Lance's return.
Oh and yes the west will suck. I agree on that point.
