Pat Tillman: 1976 - 2004

Pat Tillman

This is a painful day for the Tillman family and my condolences go out to them. I have known Pat since 1998 and I don't know if I have ever met a more dedicated person in my lifetime. He represented all that was good in sports, bringing passion, honor, integrity and dignity to the game.

Pat knew his purpose in life. He proudly walked away from a career in football to a greater calling, which was to protect and defend our country. Pat represents those who have and will make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I am overwhelmed with a sense of sorrow, but I also feel a tremendous feeling of pride for him and his service. He was not the first and won't be the last to give his life for his country. He always shunned the limelight and I am sure he would want that continued, but his life deserves to be celebrated and for his story to be told.

He and the people he served with are what make this country such a special place. It was an honor to be his friend and coach and I will miss him.

Pat was an extraordinary figure in the NFL, and an even better one in Afganistan. His death came too soon, and it would have been great to see him go back to Arizona for some more seasons with the Cardinals.

Did you know he was killed by his fellow-soldiers?

Friendly fire, you know.

I smell a rat. A big fat rat.

What a tragedy, Pat Tillman was a good man destined for a greater future.

This is really tragic to end up that way, Pat Tillman being killed by his own american fellow-soldiers. What kind of army do we have, probably one of the most unfit of the world. It is really a shame.

Tragic end to a bright star. Pat Tillman was a hero, making the ultimate sacrafice and giving his life for his fellow teammates, and his country.

I feel compelled to counter the comments made by "Teddy..." Until you have been in combat, and known the chaos that is taking place around you, you will never understand what today's military heroes go through. To reference todays army as "unfit" is really a shame because it is that "unfit" Army that gives you the freedom to make those comments.

We have the best trained and most professional military in the world! I thank god that I am an American, and I salute all of our military members!

PAT TILMEN IS A THE MOST TUREST AMERICAN SOLDIER A PATRIOT AND A GREAT SS WHAT A GREAT COMBO. Every thing the US has done for him has been great they should keep it up. Also Pat Tillmen is why all the Ohio State football players have long hair. I think it is a great thing and something Ohio State has defenitly earned as of last year for having a great season and reputation for college football.
