Video game to help decide real life baseball game

A game between the independent Kansas City T-Bones and the Schaumburg Flyers will begin virtually with two innings on the Xbox instead of out in the field.

Two contest winners will play MVP Baseball 2005 with created teams for two innings, and the score after that match-up will carry over to the real game when the two actual teams take the field. The T-Bones (great name by the way) are the ones creating the teams and will be supposedly using real-life statistics, so it'll be interesting to see how they rate the two teams. All of our guys should have 93 power!!! Muahahaha! I think it would be more interesting if they create two evenly matched teams to duke it out, so it's actually based on how good the gamers are and not the real-life teams.

Equipped with Microsoft Xbox game controllers instead of baseball gloves and bats, two video gamers will climb into recliner chairs around home plate at CommunityAmerica Ballpark and slug it out on the park’s 16- by 24-foot video screen.

Their scores from playing two innings of MVP Baseball 2005 on an Xbox will stand when the T-Bones and Flyers take the field to finish the last seven innings of the game.

Maybe this could be a way to speed up major league games, play the first 3 innings of every game on an Xbox beforehand. Of course, games in MVP Baseball can often take 45+ minutes to play anyways so it's not much better!

Update: Looks like the Northern League commisioner has gotten cold feet on the whole thing so now it's not going to happen. The gamers will still play in front of everyone but it'll be after the game is over and have no effect on the actual outcome. (6/28/2005)
