Gwen Stefani's asian chick posse creeps me out
It's one thing to put some Asian girls in a music video, I mean who doesn't love an Asian girl or three? But Gwen Stefani and her pack of Japanese
Harajuku girls that follow her everywhere have been bugging me for a while. She drags them around to awards shows and onto MTV, and has them on stage during performances.
According to Tian, these four girls are about as far from true Harajuku style and culture as you can get. Stefani has essentially taken a culture and perverted it into something she could use to sell records. Judging by how much stuff she's gotten wrong, I wonder if she's ever been to Harajuku or if she's even interested in Japanese culture as more than a marketing ploy? How much actual time off camera does she spend with these girls and is it even the same four girls everytime?
And now she's even got a Harajuku Lovers Digital Camera coming out from HP. The thing is pretty ugly and the color isn't nearly pink enough. Plus it's an overpriced piece of crap, but at least it's
limited edition! The exact same camera, sans ugly faddish crap that will actually make you uncool in about five months, is a full sixty dollars less over on Amazon.
When did it become so cool to use people as accessories and marketing gimmicks? I blame P. Diddy and Fonzworth Bentley for starting this all. Celebrities have gone from jewelry to hand bags to animals as status symbols du jour, and now we've set the precedence where it's acceptable to use human beings as fashion accessories.
It seems Gwen Stefani sees her
Harajuku girls as taller, heavier chihuahuas, how long do you think until Louis Vuitton makes a bag for that?

Has anyone noticed Gwen Stefani's Asian persuasion? Take a look, for instance, at the "Hollaback Girl" video. The chick is obsessed with... Asian chicks. It's like her trademark. There's P. Diddy's awful fur coats, Pharrell's 5 year-old girl voice, Cou...
