MovableType vs. TypePad

April 19, 2004 at 12:56 PM

Okay, so I've been debating switching from TypePad to MovableType. I'm currently 5 days into my 30 free days here on TypePad, so I have a little bit of time to decide. If I switch to MovableType I'm also going to have purchase webspace somewhere new, because I'm sure my UT webspace doesn't support it. Plus it's sooo freaking slow. But then MovableType is free, so it's all a matter of where I want my money to go. I figure $50 bucks a year at a hosting company would get me more than my fifty bucks at TypePad. We'll see if it's worth the trouble.

If anyone random has an opinion this please let me know. Anyone already use MovableType? Is it easy to use?

MT is quite easy to use, 'straight out of the box', if you want to use the defaults styles provided.

A little knowledge of CSS and you can develop your own layout quickly enough.

Plenty off 'plug ins' available to enhance your layouts as well.

I've only tried Linux/Apache hosts can't comment on Windows based hosting.

If you've got the 50 bucks go for a hosting package, at least you can then try other weblog/CMS software if MT doesn't suit

Thanks whoever you are. I would consider myself at least on the intermediate level with CSS so I think I'll check out MovableType and getting a new web host.
