SportsNation Elections

November 02, 2004 at 01:47 PM

Okay, here's an election that actually matters. Vote on such crucial sports issues as whether MLB should have a salary cap and whether college athletes should be paid. Easily the most important decision you'll make today.

NBA opening night snafu

November 02, 2004 at 08:17 AM

Mark Cuban's thoughts on this year's Mavs team. Even more telling his thoughts on why the hell the NBA season is kicking off the same night as the election.

I won’t say what i really think about the genius that started the season on election day since it’s probably the same person that started the season on Halloween in previous years. There’s only a presidential election 1x every 4 years. We start on that day..Genius. Let’s see, which are going to get more highlights and press coverage Nov 3rd. The kickoff of the NBA season or the election. The NBA has a great idea to feature “Premiere Week” and we start it on Election Night. Brilliant.

Astros want Biggio back

October 28, 2004 at 07:18 PM

The Astros have picked up Craig Biggio's $3 million option for next season, and I can't say I'm overly happy about it. Biggio is still a serviceable hitter, but runs and throws like a girl so he's a liablity in the outfield. I'd like to finally give Jason Lane a shot out there.

Nothing else matters though unless they manage to resign Carlos Beltran, and I have my doubts about that.

Orangebloods.com

Orangebloods logo

Orangebloods.com is the Texas Longhorns branch of the Rivals.com network.

For the most part a great site, the articles and news stories are definitely worth the subscription price. Great writing and great information on the Longhorns current team and on recruiting in a very timely manner. The message boards are active and for the most part the posters are intelligent and sane.

It's not cheap ($7 - $10 per month) so I've considered cancelling several times, but I'm always drawn back in by something. There's really no down time anymore, there's always recruiting info and the coverage of the football, basketball, and baseball team is usually lightyears better than any other source.

Update: Berg and I have started our own Longhorn sports weblog, check us out at BevoSports.com. (8/30/2005)

Vince Young named SI.com Player of the Week

October 25, 2004 at 01:14 PM
Vince Young

In SI's Weekend Review they have named Vince Young the player of the week.

It's nice to see him getting some positive press after the beat downs he took in the media (and on this site) about his play the last two weeks. He looked more comfortable and more like the quarterback we were all expecting to see this season.

I particularly liked the photo, it looks like he's giving the Hook 'Em Horns signal and saying "Up yours" at the same time.

Update: Head over to BevoSports.com for Vince Young updates and opinions.

Gators fire Ron Zook

October 25, 2004 at 09:53 AM

Well that didn't take long. After Florida lost to freaking Mississippi State this weekend there was a lot of talk about Ron Zook losing his job after the season, well it's already happened. ESPN is reporting that UF's crappy play along with other incidents have gotten Zook canned.

UF coach looking for a fight

October 14, 2004 at 08:31 AM

Well we may have lost to Oklahoma five times too many, but at least Mack Brown isn't wandering campus looking for a fight.

Actually I don't mind too much what Ron Zook did for his players. Sounds to me like some frat boys were talking shit and jumped some players. Zook just went back and made sure the punks knew they would be taken care of.

Plummer removes Tillman sticker

October 14, 2004 at 08:27 AM

The NFL got their way and Jake Plummer is removing the Pat Tillman "40" sticker from his helmet. Only Tillman's former team (the Arizona Cardinals) is allowed by the league to honor him, so despite the fact that Plummer played with him in college and in the NFL he's not allowed to put a small sticker on his helmet.

Talk about some BS. I'm glad I haven't had any trouble with my registrar or host yet, because it seems as if issues are pretty common place with these types of companies.

Gizmodo and Gawker should sue the pants off NetSol.

Braves lose it

October 12, 2004 at 08:28 AM
Braves players upset over the loss

Braves won their division again, but it just set them up for another postseason disappointment. Something I never realized:

The Braves' first season in Turner Field was 1997, and in seven of their eight years in "The Ted" the Braves have been eliminated from the postseason at home. The lone exception was 1999, when the Braves were swept in the World Series by the Yankees, and Game 4 was played in New York.

Astros win NLDS

October 12, 2004 at 08:22 AM
Lance Berkman slides in safely in Game 5

Astros have finally won a postseason series, their first in franchise history (42 years). In fact it's the first for either Texas team, as the Rangers have also never won one.

Congrats to Lance and the rest of the Astros. I tried to root for them yesterday, but just couldn't bring myself to root against my Braves.

Reebok Classic Pump Bringback

October 08, 2004 at 01:02 PM

My parents are teachers, therefore when I was younger and all the kids were getting Reebok Pumps I was getting bupkis. Somehow I didn't even get them two years after everyone else did. Maybe they stayed too popular and too expensive. Damn I was deprived as a kid.

Anyways, Reebok is bringing back the Pump in a new limited edition shoe. Maybe I can revive my NBA aspirations.

Don't be surprised if you see me walking down the street in a couple weeks wearing my new Pumps, a pair of Z. Cavariccis, and my Hypercolor t-shirt.
