Hands-On with PlayStation 3

Playstation 3

Xbox fanboys sure took this Playstation 3 hands-on from Kikizo Games as some sort of victory. The only major negative quote is that they say the Playstation 3 is a machine barely superior to Xbox 360 after playing games from one developer that are so still half a ear from being finished. Really difficult to make any real conclusions based on that.

This is essentially like someone playing Amped 3 when it was 50% complete and six months before launch and then saying, see I told you the Xbox 360 was going to suck. Even if the hardware was pretty damn close to final, the game(s) they got their hands on sure as heck weren’t.

As most sane people know, it all comes down to which system has the best games.

Exactly.

They spin it like the article shows the PS3 to be a disappointment, when the article says that PS3 launch games will likely look about like DOA4 does on the 360, which means better than most (all?) 360 launch games.

The Kikizo piece also quotes a developer as saying that while the 360 and PS3 can do the same kinds of things graphically, the PS3 can do more on screen at the same time, and that later on it should be able to do things that make the 360 choke. Provided developers are supplied with resources, etc.

It also says the PS3 is easier to code for than the PS2 was. PS2 still had the best sales despite its difficulty and hardware shortcomings. So with PS3...who knows. I do love how the MS-heads, who touted the XBox solely because of its hardware superiority and their ability to steal games and movies on it, can somehow defend the 360, which is clearly not the superior piece of hardware this generation.

I'm sure they'll both be successes in the long run. Sony depends on the Playstation a little bit more financially than Microsoft does on the Xbox so they can't afford to be delayed. They also can't afford to just sink billions into the thing with no regards to profit. Microsoft is just trying to get into our living rooms, they're willing to throw money at the problem to make money on Vista/Media Center stuff and the Xbox 3.

I'm just crossing my fingers that Nintendo either pulls something great out of their asses or the Revolution is their last system. I'd love to see what they could do as a game developer making games for the other guys.

Most 'xbox 360' fan boys looked at this as a victory because the 'ps3 fan boys' were making outrageous claims (based on typical Sony super-hype) about how the ps3 was two times better than the 360 and would cure cancer etc... So its a victory, not in the sense that the later-released ps3 is 'marginally' better, its that its ONLY marginally better, not the generational leap the ps3 fan boys were so sure it was.
