House Hunting

A DR Horton model home

Christina and I have started to look into buying a house next summer and so we went last weekend and visited our first open house. We went to see some DR Horton homes up in McKinney and are pretty excited. We're still very early on in our search but we had a good time and learned a lot. For one thing, the neighborhood is almost as important the house. So many of those mid-level homes are in such cookie-cutter communities where every house looks the same, that it's downright depressing.

I'm not sure whether we'll build a new home or buy an existing one, it might depend more on how far we're willing to drive moreso than how much we're willing to spend. Probably around Christmastime we'll find a realtor and start looking more seriously.

We'll be going to see some more models this weekend (and to Frisco's new Ikea too!) with Christina's parents. More photos to come and hopefully more details about what we really want.

Check out the photoset or view the slideshow on flickr.

Oh and by the way, I think I'm going to abandon the photos section and just post any new photosets here. Doesn't make much sense to maintain that section just for that now that everything's going on Flickr.

Next major redesign I'll remove it altogether.

I think we should start with a realtor now. I'm sure they would have a better list of what we're looking for.

Dude Berg that's like 400 miles from here. I guess I could get a lot of work done in the 3 hours a day I'd spend driving to and from work.

It really isn't that much further away from Addison than McKinney is.

I plotted it and it's 9.5 miles from there to 720 and the tollway. The places we were looking at in McKinney (mostly on and around 720 and Custer) are like 6 or 7 miles to the same place, but you have to remember Christina works at CityPlace so in that case it's much further.

I do not work at CityPlace. I worked 1 mile north of it at Mockingbird Station. Get it right!
