New MT version installed

August 31, 2004 at 09:44 PM

The new version of MovableType (MT 3.1) was released today and I've already gotten it up and running here. Not too much that you guys will see right away here, but it's just the first of many changes that are on their way. A couple of immediate differences: MT-Blacklist v2 is installed. For you that means your comments will appear immediately after you make them. More importantly, for me it means no longer wading through... Continue reading

My college football picks

August 31, 2004 at 03:43 PM

ESPN.com has some really great fantasy games available including full-fledged fantasy baseball and football games. But some of the best games they have available are some of their smaller free games. One of which is College Pick'em, where every week you pick the winners of ten college football games. Here are my picks for this week (my winners in orange): Away TeamHome TeamVirginiaTempleCaliforniaAir ForceOklahoma StateUCLAMichigan StateRutgersWake ForestClemsonOregon StateLSUTulaneMississippi StateColoradoColorado StateToledoMinnesotaNotre DameBrigham Young... iMac G5 revealed

August 31, 2004 at 09:06 AM

Apple has officially unveiled the much anticipated/speculated iMac G5. Pretty unspectacular. A similar styling as the gorgeous (but overpriced) Cinema Displays but white instead of silver. It appears to be very slim considering the power and capabilities, but I still think you're better suited purchasing a nice 17 inch PowerBook if you want portablitly or a Power Mac G5 if you want power. Or you could buy a similarly equipped PC for 2/3rds the price.... Continue reading

MTV crowd boos Kerry daughters

August 30, 2004 at 03:15 PM

I watched a little of the MTV Video Music Awards last night, but unfortunately I missed the best part. John Kerry's daughters came out to till all the twelve year olds watching and in attendance to go out and vote. They got booed loudly and the tall scary looking one actually shushed them like they were children. Go watch the video. The Bush twins apparently were also booed, but you expect that anytime they... My preseason college football rankings

August 27, 2004 at 09:04 PM

The college football season getting underway tomorrow (USC vs Va Tech on ESPN) and the College Gameday Preview Special was on tonight so I am more than fired up about it. I'll have something to do for about 10 hours a day the next sixteen Saturdays. I'm sure Christina is fired up about it as well. (Ha!) In honor of the occasion (and the overhyping of crappy teams like Florida, West Virginia, and Cal), here's... Continue reading

Russian plane crashes explained

August 25, 2004 at 04:30 PM

The explanation from Russian officials... "Terrorism, human error or mechanical mishap could have caused one of Russia's worst air tragedies in which two planes crashed almost simultaneously and killed at least 89 people, officials said on Wednesday." So according to the Russian government, something may have caused the two planes to crash. Or maybe it didn't. They're not really sure. But they're covering all their bases. I think they left out "act of God" and... Continue reading

I fear for our future

August 23, 2004 at 09:24 PM

See I told you people were stupid. You absolutely must read these posts and especially the comments. Read about GMail invites, your Hotmail inbox, and hacking your email accounts. There should really be some sort of application process involved in getting on the web. Maybe a mininum SAT score.... Continue reading

Best Buy being sued over "unfair practices"

August 23, 2004 at 08:42 AM

The state of Ohio is suing Best Buy over "a pattern of unfair and deceptive acts and practices." Claiming they don't honor rebates, rebates, and exchange policies, as well as alleging the store sells repackaged items as new. I've pretty much got to call BS on this whole thing. I've probably got more experience dealing with Best Buy than any other man alive (both as a former and employee and all too frequent customer)... Continue reading

Get a free iPod or TV! Or Xbox 360! Or PS3!

August 21, 2004 at 11:34 AM

Okay so this is the real deal (according to Engadget, who got info on the free flat screens and the scoop on free iPods). All you have to do is sign up for an offer, and then sign up some of your friends and you get your free item. There's even places like GearLive where you can "beat the system" and find other people to sign up with. Several of the offers that you... Continue reading

August 20, 2004 at 08:51 AM

A couple really cool aquariums that we're on Engadget the last couple weeks. The AquariAss aquarium/toilet is pretty funny (click the link below to see an image of that) but the Moody Aquarium Washbasin pictured at left is actually really cool.... Continue reading

Olympics website linking policy

August 16, 2004 at 03:33 PM

This is pretty hilarious. Jay Allen (whose MT-Blacklist v2.0 I am patiently desperately waiting for so I can deal with all this damn comment spam) who discovered the 2004 Olympics hilarious linking policy. Some of the funnier tidbits: Your link text must say "ATHENS 2004"Not associate the link with any imageYou must send a request letter (through regular old mail) to let them know that you’re linking, for how long, and why. Now just for... Continue reading

Cedric Benson assists trophy wife

August 12, 2004 at 08:43 AM

Cedric Benson has been in the news for some negative things lately, but this morning there's a positive article in the Statesman about him. Apparently he was the first person on the scene of a pretty bad accident on I-35. The driver involved in the accident was okay, but wanted Cedric to let her husband know what happened. Here's where it get's interesting, her (new) husband is Jerry Samuels of Allen Samuels Dodge relation. All... Continue reading

August 11, 2004 at 01:52 PM

David Feherty was on the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio while I was driving to lunch, I could literally listens to him all day long. He just has the world's greatest Irish accent and he's funny as hell. He works for CBS and also does the commentary on EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf game.... Continue reading

Football season is finally here

August 11, 2004 at 09:37 AM

It's been a long time since the Horns played their last game at the beginning of January, and it ended on a sour note with a loss to Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. So it's great to finally have a new season underway. The first practice of the season was yesterday evening and there's tons of information all over the place about it. The Statesman has news but not near as in-depth or... Continue reading

Good news, bad news for Chris Simms

August 11, 2004 at 08:48 AM

First the bad news... Chris and Danielle Puleo were married last Sunday. Danielle and Chris went to high school together in NJ. He is currently a quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and she works at Fazoli's. Nice job Chris. (Okay, okay. She was the manager of her father's two NYC restaurants, which I'm pretty sure is a much bigger deal.) Congrats Chris. And for the good news... There is some buzz about second-year veteran... Tom Glavine in car accident

August 10, 2004 at 04:29 PM

ESPN.com is reporting that Mets pitcher Tom Glavine was injured in an autmobile accident on his way to LaGuardia Airport. The injuries are not "life threatening" but that's all that has been disclosed. I hope the guy is okay, always been one of my favorite players despite the way his time in Atlanta ended (not entirely his fault).... Continue reading

I must have this TV

August 10, 2004 at 03:31 PM

For the longest time I've been wanting a nice, moderately large LCD rear project HDTV. I admired the Sony Grand Wega but lately the more I read/shop the more I've been looking at DLP sets. Well me and Christina were at Fry's Saturday trying to replace a laptop power cable the damn dog chewed through and we stumbled upon the Samsung HL-P5085W. Even Christina was awed, and she's not nearly as easily aroused by... Continue reading

Short Ryan Perrilloux article

August 05, 2004 at 11:46 AM

Orangebloods.com has a short article on Texas commit Ryan Perrilloux that's viewable without a subscription. Pretty much says he's still very firm in his commitment to UT and that LSU was going to continue to recruit him. Not too much new, but everytime he reiterates his commit it makes me feel a little more confident.... Continue reading

Marcus Vick suspended entire season

August 03, 2004 at 11:55 AM

Mike Vick's little bro Marcus has been suspended for the entire 2004 season by Virginia Tech University. In May Vick and two teammates were convicted of getting two girls (ages 14 and 15) drunk and then having sex with them. Then last month he got high and then got behind the wheel. Smart kid. If you can't succeed with all the talent in the world and a rich and famous brother, you've got to be... Continue reading

The MPx continues to beckon me

August 03, 2004 at 11:11 AM

I've already mentioned before that the Motorola MPx is going to someday be my new best friend, and now more information/images are coming to light. Take that you domain stealing bastards

August 02, 2004 at 01:42 PM

I've been getting more and more more interested in the business of web design lately, so last week I decided to look for a possible new domain name. I wanted an address that could be focused on design and my (currently non-existent) portfolio, so that this address could remain more personal. I was hoping for something to find a decent company name that would also have an available .com web address. I know I don't... Continue reading
