Steve Jobs on the cover of Newsweek with the new iPod

There's been a ton of rumors in the last couple weeks about the next generation of iPods. Most of the speculation assumed only minor upgrades, bringing several of the advances from the iPod mini into the larger player.

Well Steve Jobs announces in a Newsweek article that for the most part the rumors were true. The fourth-generation of iPods will be released this week and be only slightly smaller (one millimeter), have the mini's click wheel, and get better battery life. But no new colors, your choices are still white, white, and white. It'll also cost you a lot less to get one, with both the 20 and 40 gig models getting a $100 price reduction.

Update: New iPod now on sale in the Apple Store.
