I got a job!

May 11, 2004 at 09:49 AM

I haven't posted much lately, I've got a lot going on right now so I've been busy. Fortunately, most of it's been caused by good news. On Friday I received TWO job offers. After well over a year searching for a "real" job with no success, I got two freaking offers in one day. And both of them were good opportunities. Periscope here in Austin offered me early Friday morning. Great location, great people, good... Continue reading

E3 starts today

May 11, 2004 at 09:46 AM

This is gonna be a great week, E3 starts today. All the cool news on video games will be coming out, most likely including the PS3 and Xbox info everyone is dying for. Needless to say I'll be visiting IGN.com every waking second while I'm at home (motherf!@#ing work firewall) and getting as much as possible from Gizmodo until then.... Continue reading

NCAA Football 2005

May 09, 2004 at 09:29 PM

This is the first shot I've seen of the Horns and Vince Young in the new NCAA Football 2005. EB Games is saying a July 13th release date, I can't freaking wait! I'm counting the seconds.... Continue reading

ExtremeTech: GMail preview

May 06, 2004 at 10:33 AM

A glowing review of GMail from ExtremeTech. They are very positive about it's features and ease of use, and only a few things they disliked (hopefully which will be fixed by the time of the finished product.) I'll probably be signing up when it's released.... Continue reading

WinHEC 2004: Concept PCs

May 05, 2004 at 08:32 PM

There is some amazing stuff around the corner in the PC industry, hopefully something great enough to boost the IT industry and get me a damn job. The WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Conference) is going on and both Microsoft and HP are showing some pretty cool stuff. Several of the pics are just mock-ups, but it's worth checking out. ExtremeTech has 20 pictures up of stuff like the Windows Home concept PC, the HP Hermes,... Continue reading

I want this, BAD!

May 05, 2004 at 07:05 PM

Holy crap I want this TV. It's a wall-mounted DLP projection HDTV with an integrated tuner. Freaking sweet. Too bad it's $9000, a tad out of my price range. When (if?) I get a new job I will start seriously looking for a big, widescreen, high def television. I need to wait as long as possible though, because the technology is changing so fast and getting cheaper fast too. I'm going to at least wait... Continue reading

Job news

May 05, 2004 at 09:33 AM

I finally heard back from Periscope yesterday, and with good news. They want me to come in tomorrow and meet some people. I sure hope that means they want me for the job and just want to get to know me more. I'm excited. I liked the company and my interview went well with them, so hopefully it'll be a good match. I also heard from someone else within Whole Foods yesterday. When I was... Continue reading

Weird story of murder at UT

May 04, 2004 at 01:40 PM

Apparently a graduate student (Jackson Fan Chun Ngai, nice name) in UT's School of Music chopped up a professor (Danielle Martin) because she had a microchip in her brain. Weird. "Assistant Police Chief Robert Dahlstrom said Ngai called 911 at 9:15 p.m. Thursday from Martin's home. According to the affidavit, Ngai asked for help because someone in the house had a computer chip in their brain. Ngai then hung up the phone, disconnecting his conversation... Continue reading

Not all Iraqis are being mistreated

May 04, 2004 at 12:25 PM

Despite recent reports about mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners, it's not true in every case. Some, like these young boys pictured below, are being taught valuable lessons.... Continue reading

Hybrid cars not only gay but deadly

May 04, 2004 at 11:39 AM

Not only do hybrid cars save you money, but they also make you look like a stupid jackass. And now, they kill people. Rescue workers using the Jaws of Life are being electrocuted when trying to cut through the doors to get people out. Read the CNN article from Gizmodo.... Continue reading

Good news, bad news

May 04, 2004 at 09:36 AM

The good news is that I talked to the secretaries in the front office this morning and I get three pay checks over the summer. That's pretty great, I get paid for doing (more) nothing. The bad news is that sure takes some of the pressure off me about finding a job. I don't have to worry about being unemployed till like August. Why is that bad news? Because without urgency, I'll probably end up... Continue reading

More on GMail

May 03, 2004 at 10:15 AM

Really interesting thoughts on GMail from Brad Choate. (Whose site I found because of his MT plug-ins, namely EmbedImage.) He hypothesizes that not only will Google be able to offer 1 GB of free email storage, but may even be able to pay people to use the service. Or at least for clicking on ads they see. If I'm going to be targeted by ads (by DoubleClick, etc) I might as well get to see... Continue reading
